Product Description

Planet Earth From the makers of The Blue Planet: Seas of Life, with an unprecedented production budget of $25 million, comes the epic story of life on Earth. Five years in production, over 2000 days in the field, using 40 cameramen filming across 200 locations, shot entirely in high definition, this is the ultimate portrait of our planet. A stunning television experience that captures rare action, impossible locations and intimate moments with our planet's best-loved, wildest and most elusive creatures. From the highest mountains to the deepest rivers, this blockbuster series takes you on an unforgettable journey through the daily struggle for survival in Earth's most extreme habitats. Planet Earth takes you to places you have never seen before, to experience sights and sounds you may never experience anywhere else. Wild China An exotic fusion of natural history and Oriental adventure, "Wild China" is a series of journeys through four startlingly different landscapes, each based around the travels of a real historical character. With splendour, scale and romance, Wild China lifts the veil on the world's most enigmatic and magnificent country, delving into its vibrant habitats to reveal a land of unbelievable natural complexity. Journey across China from the glittering peaks of the Himalayas to the barren steppe, the sub-Arctic to the tropical islands, through deserts both searingly hot and mind-numbingly cold and see, in pioneering images, a dazzling array of mysterious, beautiful, wild and rare creatures. Galapagos The inspiration for Darwin 's theory of evolution, the Galápagos Islands are a living laboratory, a geological conveyor belt that has given birth to and seen the death of many species of plants and animals. As the western islands rise up from the sea offering a chance of life, the eastern islands sink back beneath the waves guaranteeing only death. Between the two are the middle islands; fertile, lush land in its prime that contains an incredible diversity of life. Nowhere else on the Earth are the twin processes of creation and extinction of species so starkly apparent... see it all unfold before your eyes in this stunning series filmed entirely in high definition from the BBC and the National Geographic Channel. Ganges A sumptuous series that tells the story of the most extraordinary river in the world - the Ganges. Human life and nature bustle along her river banks, in a kaleidoscope of colour and energy. From man-hunting tigers to giant lizards, here the wildlife is as diverse as the people. Traversing from the peaks of the Himalayas through frenetic cities to the teeming delta where the river meets the sea, this is a vibrant and colourful look at how the Ganges shaped the wildlife, culture and beliefs of India.

5.0 out of 5 stars BBC Nature at its best! March 20 2009
By A. Tang
Format:Blu-ray
As usual the BBC has produced 3 stunning series with wonderful photography, and sensitive and informative narration. The high definition achieved with Blu-ray renders ultra-sharp images and vivid colours; a marked improvement over standard DVD's.
In Planet Earth, Sir David Attenborough takes us on a tour of many different types of habitats, showing animals and behaviour which have rarely, if ever, been captured on film.
Wild China shows China in a wonderful light with incomparable natural vistas and scenery to take your breath away. Animals are unusual and the relationship between them and people is brought into sharp focus.
Galapagos loosely follows Darwin's travels and the genesis of his ideas.
We haven't yet watched Ganges, but I see no reason to think that it won't be as good as all the other programs here.

These are all worthy additions to a video library. The programs can be watched many times over without losing one's sense of wonder at the natural world. For most of us, these images are the closest we will ever get to seeing many rare and endangered animals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely loved Wild China March 17 2010
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
There are nature videos and then there is this set. Many people have reviewed Earth in various outlets, but I was blown away by Wild China. This series is as much about people as it is about nature. It discusses wildlife, geography, traditional farming, and the lifestylse of people and how they interact with their environments in unique ways that would never occur to us westerners. For example, rice farmers delay planting of their crop until migratory birds return to nest in their kitchens and 5000 miles of underground tunnels connect mountain streams to vineyards in the middle of the most hostile, hot, barren desert in the world. I'll watch Wild China again and again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great... but... somethings missing May 17 2011
Format:Blu-ray
I thought the video quality was great on the DVD version. When I played the first disk of Planet Earth I was amazed. Full high def images. WOW! The quality of the shows are what you would expect from the BBC. Only one draw back from this set... The extended making of segments on the DVD set I owned are missing! Maybe I shouldn't have given it away so soon. Well worth the purchase even without the extra making of segments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the price of a new home theater! May 15 2010
Format:Blu-ray
I have just returned from a 70 day cruise that included the Panama Canal, the whole coast of South America, the Falkland Islands, the Antarctic down to 65 degrees South and 1000 miles up the Amazon River and back to Florida.
Many memories to be treasured and others to be best forgotten. I am not exaggerating when I say that the BBC High-Definition Natural History Collection using Blu-ray technology delivers an experience that is so immediate as to compete in some ways with ALL that is entailed in "being there". It truly is a risk free, affordable mode of travel and a treat for the senses as well as for the intellect. I rate it ******! (I grant you that the food is not as good!)
