From Booklist
Annie Gibson continues her social climb from the depths of poverty on Salem Street as she opens her own modiste salon in a fashionable section of town. As her business expands, so does her personal life. Annie survived a brutal rape and the resulting pregnancy in the first part of the trilogy,
Salem Street , and her experiences have made her uncomfortable with the suitors who pop up at every turn in the second book. But it is not until a rejected suitor threatens to blacken her carefully built reputation that Annie discovers love has been waiting patiently for her.
High Street is a carefully crafted glimpse into the societal strata of Victorian England and a departure from most second novels of trilogies, which are primarily filler. A solid read and the makings of an excellent saga for historical fiction collections.
