Book Description

Nov. 20 2007 Highlander Series (Book 3)
A Warrior of Immortal Powers He was a mighty Scottish warrior who lived in a world bound by ancient laws and timeless magic. But no immortal powers could prepare the laird of Castle Brodie for the lovely accursed lass who stood before him. A terrible trick of fate had sent her 700 years back in time and into his private chamber to tempt him with her beauty - and seduce him with a desire he could never fulfill. For this woman he burned to possess was also the woman he had foresworn to destroy. A Woman Caught in the Mists of Time When Lisa felt the earth move under her feet, the fiercely independent 21st-century woman never dreamed she was falling...into another century. But the powerful, naked warrior who stood glaring down at her was only too real...and too dangerously arousing. Irresistibly handsome he might be, but Lisa had no intention of remaining in this savage land torn by treachery and war. How could she know that her seductive captor had other plans for her...plans that would save her from a tragic fate? Or that this man who had long ago forsaken love would defy time itself to claim her for his own....

By Joanne
Format:Mass Market Paperback
After reading the one star ratings for this book, I thought it necessary to put it into perspective for prospective readers.

I'm a BIG fan of romance novels. From devouring Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, I moved on to Sara Donati's Into the Wilderness series and hopped from one book to another of light historical romance novels trying to satisfy my craving for "the chase", adventure, love stories and happy endings in another era. Then I discovered Karen Marie Moning. At first I found the titles and the writing style cheesy but I gave it a shot. Wasn't long til I didn't give a snit about that I just wanted to know what was going to happen next!

These books do not drag on. That's one of its strengths.

If you are looking for something up to the writing standards of our dear Diana Gabaldon and will accept no less, then this is not the series for you. If however, you are happy to indulge in light literature - no big words and flowery descriptions now - just a lovable heroine we can all relate to on some level and the requisite hunky highlander we'd all end up falling for. I dare you not to. The series is a quick, easy read, supplies happy endings in surprising ways and is a welcome distraction. I suggest it as an in between "big book" reads.

Now you've been warned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! Jan. 2 2004
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I was getting bored with the romance genre until I ordered this book. I was riveted from page one. I'm not going to go into plot because so many reviewers did a splendid job of that. All I can say is that Ms. Moning created a delicious brew of time travel and fantasy, faeries and wonderous Scottish lure. In between all of that were two phenomenal leading characters with sparks and sexual tension that left me sighing...and turning page after page until the wee hours. I can almost believe in faeries!

1.0 out of 5 stars Left me disturbed, bad taste in mouth May 1 2009
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Karen Marie Moning is a great author and was trying something new that didn't quite work in this novel. The hero and the heroine have little basis to have fallen in love. They speak infrequently, know nothing about each other (not even values) and yet all at once it's 'there' and soul-permeating. The hero doesn't evolve so much as 'forget' his motivations (bad one moment, magnanimous the next, manipulative, then kind, then determined, and THEN determined for something else altogether in the end!)

The ending is one of the most atrocious fairy-wand endings I have EVER read. Time is travelled, all the woman's tragic experiences reversed, the dead are raised, the hero suddenly understands space and time and snaps into a fairy-godmother that we don't recognize, and everything is put to sitcom-right. I thought we were slightly more mature than that. I like a happy ending, but it's really... NAUSEATING. Overcoming the pain together(not making it all go away via a 900 yr jaunt into a wtf do-over) is what makes a story beautiful. You can't MULLIGAN life!

When there are no rules in a fantasy-world, there is nothing of value.

The storyline with the bad Templar had potential, but was killed about 3 minutes in. Random historical detail and content, and really, tampons causing the 'black moment'? That was a little strange. Also, what was the story with the redhead at the celebration? Nothing became of it, and it was random filler.

Adam Black's character/power/malaise was severely disrespected in this story. He was nothing more than a plot device, unrecognizable by the end. If you can skip this one, read To Tame a Highland Warrior instead. Monings' finest so far as I have read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun And Light Read! Nov. 1 2003
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This was a fun and light read that I throughly enjoyed. Ms. Moning has a flair for combining romance, laughter, and time travel in such a way that you find yourself drawn into the story and get lost in her world.
Lisa is working two jobs in order to take care of her mother that was dying of cancer. She is young and she feels as if she is missing out on life. One night while she was working as a maid in a museum she finds herself drawn to a relic and when she touches it she is sent back in time 700 years in the past to Scotland and to a very wet, and naked Circenn Laird of Brodie.
Circenn made a promise to kill who ever returned with the cursed flask but when he sees a very beautiful women in the most strange pair of legging he's ever scene, he wants to forget about his sworn promise to destroy her. Circenn is has his own problems he is immortal, has a promise he must keep to the templar knights that he is protecting, and he now finds himself drawn to the very lovely Lisa. Could his life get any more complicated? Why yes, yes it can.
Lisa wants to return home to her sich mother, but she is still finding herself drawn to the handsome Circenn. She is feeling emotions that she never had before. Soon they start getting closer but Lisa still can't forget her obligations that rest in the future. Can she have her happily ever after?
This book was so good I was sad to see it come to the end. I laughed, cried, and yes, fell a little bit in love with Circenn. If you love books that pull you into the story and location then you will love this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing, Made me Smile! Oct. 31 2002
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
A very fun and fast read. The book was adorable, beautiful characters and very humerious. Lisa works her self to the bone trying to provide for herself and her mother who is dying of cancer. She is always getting herself in messes and is a crack up. She works two jobs, one in a museum at night cleaning offices. She discovers some old artifacts and being curious as a cat she snoops. She picks up a flask and is immediately transported back in time. Circenn the hunk of the book, has cast a spell or curse on the flask to whoever touches it will be immediately sent to him. I don't want to go into any more details, but if you like paranormal, time travelling books you'll love this one. I fell in love with both of the characters. Lisa was so real, constantly getting herself into trouble, Ms. Moning wrote this character so well I could picture every move she made. Circenn was a dream, a bit unbeleavable, but so what, we can dream can't we? He was wonderful! There is even a life lesson to the book which you find out at the end. It was a great fun story. A little silly but hey, thats what these time travel books are all about. This was a great escape from the everyday romances.
