Good quality fish food. Sept. 30 2011

I've used hikari gold for years and have always been happy with the results. The fish have always taken right to it and I've never had issues with cloudy water from leftovers. I do believe it helps to bring out the colors in the fish by contributing to keeping them happy and healthy. If you choose to buy it I hope you have results as good as I have had and thanks for taking the time to read my review.

Excellent Formula Chiclids Love Jan. 1 2013
By Peter Suslock - Published on

I've used Hikari for over thirty years with great results. Some of the other Hikari formulas have been down graded in protein and now carry MSG - However Cichlid Gold isn't one of them.

The best things about this food are that the first ingredient is white fish meal. It's important when evaluating any pet food that the source of animal protein is identified, in this case it's white fish. In addition many companies that manufactures pet foods get around certain guidelines by weighing the protein source prior to cooking. Being as raw meat is over 90% water prior to cooking what is often listed as the first ingredient - is in fact much lower on the list.

This Hikari formula lists "white fish meal" as the first ingredient making this food a step up in quality. I use this food in conjunction with Zoo-Meds Spirulina 20 which is incredibly rich in protein, amino acids and other essentials with virtually zero filler. This combination - with the addition of fresh blanched kale and other dark greens has brought their color out dramatically, the fish are wonderfully healthy and highly resistant to bacterial infections and other illness.

My 12" Red Devil and equally large Flowerhorn and Texas Red virtually do head stands when they see the Hiraki bag. My only complaint is the amount of filler including wheat. The first three ingredients of any fish food should without question be animal based protein. To it's credit it's free of Ethoxyquin which is often listed as a preservative but is in fact a pesticide. Which if you read the studies is especially lethal to fish - even in trace amounts. A good article can be found on Wiki-pedia which links to one of the above mentioned studies.

Perfect for My Big Red Parrot Fish July 8 2013
By Conspicuous Consumer - Published on

I have a tank full of multi-sized cichlids that require different sized food. The Parrot Fish, however, will eat everything if I don't control the feeding.

I start off with these big pellets so that the Parrots' mouths are full when I add the medium pellets for the medium sized cichlids. Then I throw in the smallest sized pellets for the little fish.

Everyone's happy and healthy but I do admit to having to spend 45 minutes a week cleaning the tank. The combination of fish and food produces a lot of fish fertilizer (I throw the dirty water in the front yard and the grass looks great).

I really like this fish food. I will probably feed this for the rest of their lives.

I have been feeding it to my Oscars for a couple of years now as well as a Jack Dempsey and they all look wonderful. They all are active and have vibrant attractive coloration. I also haven't had any issues with illness and it makes for a very beautiful and stress free aquariums.

We have been feeding this to the oscars we keep and they are mad for it . They have started to glow and are growing at a rate of knots. They go mad every time the light comes on and follow the bag tell you give them what they want. They really love this food and all there colors have become brighter and more pronounced they are far more active than before. great product
