Review

"In a class of its own. Completely honest, deadpan, funny, and shrewdly intelligent . . . a journey you will never forget."  —William Boyd, author, A Good Man in Africa

"Something for the 21st century."  Graham Greene, author, The End of the Affair

"An absolute knockout. Brilliant, passionate, and very alarming."  —Michael Ratcliffe, staff writer, The Observer

"A classic of English eccentricity."  John Fuller, author, Now and for a Time

Product Description

This extraordinary roller-coaster ride into deepest England begins as a mysterious thriller, when an unknown woman arrives at a silent village in the dead of night. But the plot takes on a wild, unpredictable energy, as her search for love draws her into lives on conflicting journeys of their own. As though Evelyn Waugh and William Burroughs had somehow collided in the 21st century, this novel is sometimes shocking but surprisingly warm-hearted, and has already been hailed as a comic masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Laugh Out Loud Romp Set In The English Countryside, May 31 2011
By Frances Lynn "Frances Lynn "Author, Crush... - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: A History of Facelifting (Paperback)
If the world is about to end and you need cheering up, this beautifully written novel is a necessity. Duncan Fallowell is not only an exquisite writer, his deadpan prose is also laugh out loud funny. His female protagonist, whose character is gradually unfolded throughout the book infiltrates a self-sufficient dysfunctional family in the midst of an unspoilt England. Fallowell's description of the British countryside seems archaic and somewhat mythical, and although his unique story is set in the near future, one can easily imagine the premise takes place in the pre World War II era. With names like The Conkers of Galadriel thrown into the mad but feasible plot, "A History of Facelifting" is an hysterical romp with roller coaster twists leading up to a surprising denouement.
