Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

This is about as treacly as pop can get, yet something about it endears and endures. Forget the Neil Youngish banality of "Horse with No Name". The best America songs feature a delicate yet intricate interplay of acoustic guitars that creates a tableau for sweeter-than-sweet vocalese. Just try not to sing along to "Ventura Highway" or "Sister Golden Hair". Try not to be suckered into sentimental reminiscence when listening to "I Need You" or the superb "Daisy Jane". And if your heart hardens when listening to the low-key lope of the "Muskrat Love", you must be cold-blooded. --Tod Nelson

Chronique amazon.fr

La pop ne peut pas être plus sirupeuse, et pourtant ces chansons restent plaisantes. Oubliez le banal "Horse With No Name" à la Neil Young. - -Tod Nelson

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy listening CD, Feb 5 2007

My mother actually owned this CD from when she was in College. And I finally listened to it. The songs are really good, but... the lyrics? ... Anyway, I sang some songs in the car, and I have to say that's it's an easy listening CD. Just let play in the car and you feel more relax. We get bored by 'A Horse With No Name' pretty easily. The 'La, la, la-la, la-la...' are way to said. The musicians in America are so fantastic and the singers are good, wich make it a good-road-CD, for vacations maybe. I recommande it for Folk fans and of course, America fans.

1.0 out of 5 stars Music that makes me want to put my head through a brick wall, April 12 2004

There are lists of Desert Island Discs, and there are lists that have this godawful album on this. I had a college roommate that played this garbage far too often, and I found myself welcoming death after a certain point. Horse With No Name? Muskrat Love? Are you kidding me? Does it truly get any worse than this? What lunatic considers these songs noteworthy other than for their sheer awfulness?

1.0 out of 5 stars No Magic Found in History: Greatest Hits, Feb 24 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: History Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I'm serious here. Perhaps one of their best-known hits "You Can Do Magic" is not found on this compilation. I realize this because I bought it, and pulled it out the other day to listen and realized it was missing. Get the other one.
