Product Description

The History of Joseph Smith by His Mother is a biography of the Latter Day Saint prophet Joseph Smith, according to his mother, Lucy Mack Smith. It was originally titled Biographical Sketches of Joseph Smith, the Prophet, and His Progenitors for Many Generations and was published by Orson Pratt in Liverpool in 1853.

Shortly following the death of Joseph Smith in 1844, and into 1845, Lucy Mack Smith dictated her recollections and family story to Nauvoo schoolteacher Martha Jane Coray. Coray worked with her husband to compile these books of notes and other sources into a manuscript, which was then copied.

This mother's history of her prophet son, Joseph Smith, is eye-opening and heartwarming. What he had to endure to fulfill his mission from the Lord is an additional testimony of his calling. It's a big help having this on a Kindle.

Joseph Smith's mother's account of the history of the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ added more detail that I had not previously known. I plan to reread this book. I was really inspired by her accounts of their lives. I know even more certainly why I have joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am glad to have you know why I am a Mormon.

I have never seen a woman in my life, who would endure every species of fatigue and hardship, from month to month, and from year to year, with that unflinching courage, zeal, and patience, which she has ever done; for I know that which she has had to endureshe has been tossed upon the ocean of uncertaintyshe has breasted the storms of persecution, and buffered the rage of men and devils, which would have borne down almost any other woman. "e;

During this night I made a solemn covenant with God that if He would let me live I would endeavor to serve him according to the best of my abilities. Shortly after this I heard a voice say to me, "Seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Let your heart be comforted; ye believe in God, believe also in me." "e;

I retired to a grove not far distant, where I prayed to the Lord in behalf of my husbandthat the true gospel might be presented to him and that his heart might be softened so as to receive it, or, that he might become more religiously inclined. "e;
