5.0 out of 5 stars An old favorite republished and affordable, Jan 30 2010

This review is from: History of Windham County, Connecticut Vol.1 (Paperback)
As with the second volume of Ellen Larned's history of Windham County, I welcomed this reissue in an affordable paperback edition of her original 2 volume set published in 1874. I haven't had a chance to read both the reissued volumes, but I spent hours in the 1950s as a young history buff in Danielson at my local public library reading their copies of her original 2 volume set. They were comprehensive and readable for even a teenager. I consider her work to be the best of several books on the history of Windham County.

5.0 out of 5 stars The History of a County and its People, Feb 21 2011

This review is from: History of Windham County, Connecticut Vol.1 (Paperback)
These two books are a concise history of the building of the County and area. It is not a genealogy of the people. One needs to hunt through the book for the names, and the author does not give the family connections or pedigrees, unfortunately. However, it is a valuable accounting of the actual history, reading almost like a diary of the times. Her book is referred to many times in stating historical reference and probably the original source for the history.
