3.0 out of 5 stars Dead or Alive? Feb. 17 2004
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book has its likes and dislikes. The plot is a bit cliché; a typical story with at twist where a couple of teens are out fooling around when something terrible happens and they become horrified. In this case, four friends are out practicing their driving when one of them hits a man. Since neither of them have their licenses, they drag the corpse to the side of the road and drive off. Soon enough, strange things start happening to each of the four friends. Since the plot is cliché, my interest wasn't captured until nearly halfway into the book, when the twist starts to appear. I really liked the ending and was really surprised by it. So many things come about that I never would have guessed. It was very interesting and sometimes even thrilling to find out what was going to happen next. However, it was very hard to get into the book. This was about the fourth time I've picked it up and tried to read it; my attention just wasn't there in the beginning of the book. You need a lot of patience to get by the first five (which are short) chapters. As you read on you get pulled more and more into the story then, soon enough, when you feel as if you could never put it down, it's over.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great book! March 31 2003
Format:Mass Market Paperback
The novel I read was "Hit and Run" By: R.L. Stine. I enjoyed reading the novel because it had excitement, thrill, and a lot of killing because of drama between a boyfriend and girlfriend.
The author had interest me throughout the entire novel because he had put a lot of mystery like what would come next and what would happen if he/or she did this or that and who would do what. My favorite scene in this novel would be when the girlfriend "Jennie", goes to her house to go change to go to a party with her boyfriend "Frank" and it was around 9:00 p.m. and Frank had picked her up and they left and when they were driving over there they stop at a stop light and a car stop on there right and a bunch of guys where in there and when the light turn green both cars pressed the gas and they just took off and they raced and the cops saw them and try to stop them and they got away and the cops lost them and they never got caught so I thought that was pretty cool.
I learned a little from this book like never trust your friends and there never true friends unless you really trust them, and also I learned that racing a car you have to think twice about it before you do because if you get caught you will get in so much trouble. I did gain something in this novel that if you race a car and a police is chasing you A, stop and get in trouble and don't drive for about a year maybe at least. B, or if your car is really fast and you know the area really good go faster and try to trick the cop.
This book I would recommend it because it's really good and a lot of my friends like action and bleeding and they like to see what's going to happen next, so yeah I would really recommend it to my friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Look before you cross...." Sept. 3 2002

Format:Mass Market Paperback
Four high schoolers from Avondale North (Cassie Martin, the protagonist, Scott Baldwin, Eddie "Scaredy" Katz, and Bruce "Winks" Winkleman) secretly go out one evening to practice their driving on a nearby deserted road. However, on the way back home, they accidentally hit and kill a man crossing the street. The foursome try and keep it a secret, but too many odd things start to happen shortly after: the corpse of the man they killed is reported missing from the morgue, the four young teens start receiving threatening phone calls from the deceased man (Brandt Tinkers), as well as other signs to indicate the man isn't dead after all--or is he? Could this whole stunt really just be a sick joke?
"Hit and Run" loosely follows the path of Lois Duncan's "I Know What You Did Last Summer", except there's not as much bloodshed in this book as compared to the movie (which is surprising, since this is a Stine book), except for another hit-and-run targeting Winks. As is typical with any R. L. Stine book, the writing's spare and short, and there's a cliffhanger at the end of every chapter. The identity of the killer is pretty easy to guess as well (at least it was for me), and I'm sure most readers familiar with Stine's work will guess him/her nearly from the beginning. There is some morbid, juvenile humor (i.e., at the beginning with the human eye prank and at the end when they're playing around with a stiff), but I think the intended audience will probably enjoy it rather than be disgusted.
