Hitachi C7BMR 15-Amp 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw with Electric Brake and IDI Technology

From the Manufacturer

The Hitachi C7BMR 15-Amp 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw provides the stability and power any professional or handyman needs from their tool to get the job done correctly and efficiently. A powerful 15-amp motor with a maximum 1,710-watt output will produce a no-load speed of 5,800-RPM and rip through tile, marble, granite, concrete, brick and other similar materials. Made of heavy-duty die-cast aluminum alloy, the one-piece base offers easy to read front and side scales for accurate measurements. The C7BMR features Internal Double Insulation (IDI) technology that enables the aluminum housing to be intertwined with an injection molded inner nylon core to combine the durability of an all metal body tool with the double insulation advantages of a tool with plastic housing. The 7-1/4-inch, 24-tooth, carbide-tipped blade with 5/8-inch arbor powers through tough cuts with ease and has a 1-27/32-inch depth of cut at 45-degrees and a 2-3/8-inch depth of cut at 90-degrees. The C7BMR Circular Saw is capable of not only making accurate 90-degree cuts, but it can also make clean bevels from 0 to 55-degrees in just about any common framing material. A blade guard protects your hands during angled cuts, and a spindle lock provides an extra level of safety. Other features include an electric brake that stops the blade rotation within seconds preventing unintended cuts and the carbon brush access lets you replace the brush as needed to prolong the life of the tool. The C7BMR weighs only 10.5-pounds and designed with a D-shaped elastomer covered handle to provide a sure grip and improved comfort making this saw an easy tool to use for all day jobs. This saw includes a 24-tooth TCT saw blade and 10mm wrench. The Hitachi C7BMR 15-Amp 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw comes with a 5-year warranty. Hitachi Power Tools (Hitachi Koki USA, Ltd.) provides professional-grade power tools and pioneered innovative technologies that have improved the quality of craftsmanship worldwide.

Seems very well built, but probably the heaviest saw I've ever owned. Also, the trigger hole is almost too small.

Good circular saw value Sept. 22 2003
By A Customer - Published on
I compared the Hitachi C7SB2 to several other saws in its price range and chose the C7SB2 for the following reasons:
* Lever locks used for blade height and angle adjustment instead of wing nuts or knobs. My old saw used wing nuts that are difficult to tighten and loosen.
* Aluminum saw base makes the saw lighter and feels more solid than pressed steel bases.
* Blade lock makes it easy to change saw blades.
* Replaceable brushes for easy maintenance.
* Carrying case included.
* Carbide blade included.
* Priced below $100.
This saw would have received a 5 with the exception of two issues:
1) The blade guard retracting lever is made of plastic (most saw manufacturers use plastic) that could break in time.
2) The Hitachi information label is lifting at the edges and will probably come off at some point.

Purchase the Hitachi C7BD2 Instead Oct. 22 2005
By Paul - Published on
Consumer Reports (August 2005 Issue) reviewed this saw and recommended it as a Best Buy. If your budget allows, I would recommend going with the Hitachi C7BD2 (also a CR Best Buy). The C7BD2 includes an electric brake for much quicker stopping of the blade and therefore better safety. Like the C7BD2 this saw has a powerful 15 Amp motor and a sturdy alumimum base.

I also wish both saws had better depth adjustment (there are no measurement markings to approximate the depth of cut). Lastly a Laser guide would have been nice.

Not bad for the price Feb. 17 2008
By JV - Published on
I purchased new from Amazon for $69.95 which is a good deal. However if the price is over $100 your better off getting the Dewalt for an additional $15-$20. This saw is lightweight and powerful. It is a great home owner saw for occasional use. For full time construction/carpentry use, it falls short of the Dewalt, Makita, or Portacable. The carry case does not have a place for the wrench and the rip fence, which is not a big deal, but wrapping the power cord and closing the case is a challenge. The base of the saw is very sturdy and easy to adjust, the numbers are easy to read. Overall quality and feel is about a 3 out of 5.

Wonderful Dec 9 2012

I was having problems cutting thin strips for a kayak using a table saw, I have a makita cordless saw, but battery power would not last long enough for all the strips I need to cut. So I bought this circular saw built a jig for it and in the last two days I have cut about 200 strips, from wood up to 5 cm thick. It did not overheat or even pause when going through thick stock after hours of work.

Light but still solid, great carbide blade comes with the saw and a great value. I highly recommend it.

Very Good Saw Feb. 22 2010

I just received this saw a couple of days ago. I have done some initial testing (plywood cutting). I have not yet used this saw for a significant amount of time yet. My intended use for this saw is to break down 3/4" birch plywwod to be used for kitchen cabinet carcasses. To do this I intend to use an EZ Smart Eurakazone base and guide system. The depth adjustment of the saw is not very smooth, but functions well enough. I was surprised that Hitachi did not install one of those numbersed depth of blade indicators near the rear of the depth/blade housing. this is Ok for me. Over 95% of my cutting will be with 3/4" and some 3/8" plywwod. Since I am going to use ths saw for finish cutting I did not install the supplied 24 tooth blade that came with the saw. I installed a new 60 tooth Freud finish blade. I made some initial trial cuts on some 3/4" OSB I had lying around. CUTS SMOOTH AS BUTTER! Plenty of power, very low vibrations, very good grips, very easy to control, and the cuts (with the Freud 60 tooth blade) were very smooth. Also brake stopped blade in about 2 to 3 seconds. For safety and to make a series of cuts rapidily the brake is a very good feature. I usually like to keep my tools in a case, but in this instance lack of a supplied case is not a problem. I intend to install the EZ Smart base which most likely would prevent it fitting into a stock case anyway. I just put the saw back in supplied card board box and dropped all into a $1.99 orange bag from the Big Orange Box Store. I'll will add to this review after I install on EZ Smart Base and Guide System and do some more cutting. All in all I am very satisifed with this purchase. This is a very good saw for the money, and the only one I could find of this quality and price range that comes with a brake. This weekend (3/15/10) I installed EZ Smart Base. I then (with the 60 tooth Freud Blade) cut a bunch of 3/4 OSB. Again, beautiful smooth cuts, Easy to Handle, very low vibration, great control. This weekend (4/2/10) I rip cut some 3/4" hard Maple for Face Frames with the saw. Once again, beautiful smooth cuts, Easy to Handle, very low vibration, great control ALLs GOOD with this saw.
