Book Description

Ride to live, live to eat. Here is the ultimate Hog ride down 66. This book is filled with history, factoids, travel information and recipes--everything you need to know to ride the Mother Road.

Michael Wallis and Marian Clark team up to celebrate two beloved American icons, Harleys and Route 66. "Hogs on 66" mixes food, fun and the freedom of the road in colorful photographs, stories, and information about Hog-friendly Hangouts, where to buy your Harley stuff, road tips, profiles from the road, biker wedding spots and several hundred favorite recipes from towns along the Route.

Road, machine and rider have enjoyed a long, colorful history together, a story chronicled here in vintage photographs and reminiscences. You'll learn all about butt darts in Vega, Texas and other behind-the-scenes tales from Harley tours down the Route. You'll meet Harley celebrities who've traveled the road, such as Franklin Graham and Reba McIntyre.

Some eat to ride, but those who ride to eat will especially appreciate this compendium of favorite sights, stories, personalities, restaurants and recipes from the 8-state strip of pavement that connected Chicago with Los Angeles before the Interstate era and still welcomes riders today. Stay home and try out the recipes or hit the open road with book in hand. Either way, you'll find "Hogs on 66" a delightful and essential equipment for the road warrior in you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun book to read!, Jan 6 2009

This review is from: Hogs on 66: Best Feed and Hangouts for Roadtrips on Route 66 (Hardcover)
I bought this book for my husband and we both love it! There are several pictures of Route 66 locations along with pictures of bikers. The stories are fun to read and give you an insight as to the different restaurants that are mentioned in the book. There are several great recipes. I have made Fred and Red's Chili several times as well as Funk's Grove Maple Sirup Bars which are fantastic! There is also a section titled "Hog Handbook" which covers such topics as "Biker Speak"; "Biker Mother Road Essentials"; "Biker Pit Stops - A list of authorized Harley-Davidson dealers located on the Mother Road in the eight Route 66 states"; "Biker Mother Road Test"; "Biker Celebs"; "Biker Tunes for the Mother Road"; "Food Festival Fun on Route 66"; and "Route 66 Associations". If you are looking for another good Route 66 book by Michael Wallis, you won't be disappointed with this one.

If you're into recipe's of the road, then this is it. Actual road history & pics make up less the 50%. If you want to learn about the road, find another. Not worth the money.
