Gloria seems to be one of the most successful female Spanish solo artsts around. In 1992, a year after releasing Into The Light, she released her seventh album, Greatest Hits. That one contains all of the greatest hits she had with Miami Sound Machine and only one hit from Into The Light. In 1993, she released her eighth and ninth albums. The eighth was a Spanish album entitled, Mi Tierra. The ninth was Christmas Through Your Eyes. In 1994, Gloria decided to record her tenth album, but with a new concept. She chose twelve songs she had heard and loved since her childhood and decided to re-record them in her way, making them cover songs. She entitled the album, Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me. This is yet another incredible album.
HOLD ME THRILL ME KISS ME
Not that impressive
HOW CAN I BE SURE
Her version is much better than the original.
EVERLASTING LOVE
The second single from the album. This was original sung by Carl Carlton, but Gloria recorded the, and this by fact, the best version. When the time came for Gloria to shoot the music video, a small problem occured: she was about to give birth to her daughter. Gloria said that they were not getting her in front of a camera, especially for close-ups. They were on a schedual, so a video had to be made, so Gloria asked herself, "Who can do 'me' better than me?" She said it was an easy answer because she had been to many shows where she had seen men in drag, inpersonating her. She thought they all do such a great job, that she decided to have some guys dress up as her to shoot the video. The crew found five guys who were willing to do the job. Gloria saw the video and thought the five guys did such an amazing job that she took two of the five on the road as some of her dancers for her Evolution Tour.
TRACES
Okay.
DON'T LET THE SUN CATCH YOU CRYING
Not a favorite.
YOU'VE MADE ME SO VERY HAPPY
Not a favorite.
TURN THE BEAT AROUND
The first single from the album. This was originally recorded by the late Vickie Sue Robinson. I do not want to disrespect Vickie Sue Robinson, but her version sucked. Gloria's version is the definitive one. Gloria shot this video, while standing ontop of the Miami Skyline. She was seven months pregnant with her daughter. In the video, Gloria was standing ontop of the Miami Skyline, hair pulled into a bun, a black glittery evening gown, lips made up heavily in red, and she sang the song into a microphone that sat on a stand. The stand was rested up on Gloria's stomach, and while the music was so loud, Gloria literally felt her daughter kicking an awful lot, as if she was dancing. At one point, she felt her daughter kick to the point where the microphone stand fell over.
BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO
Not bad.
LOVE ON A TWO WAY STREET
Okay.
CHERCHEZ LA FEMME
The third single from the album. This is a classic song. The original is just as good, because both sound alike.
IT'S TOO LATE
I don't like this one because it's a Carole King song and I do not like Carole King.
GOODNIGHT MY LOVE, PLEASANT DREAMS
Gloria said that this was one of her husband's favorite songs. He said that it always reminded him of her, inspiring Gloria to include this song.
This is a great album and I've been listening to it since it came out at the beginning of my fourth grade year. Buy it and you will all be listening to it an awful lot.
