Magnificent offering from a truly outstanding performer,
By Paul Tognetti "The real world is so much more... (Cranston, RI USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Hold Onto Your Dream (Audio CD)
Here in the United States a lot of people have probably heard Judith Durham on the radio and in recordings but most would admit they have never heard of her. That is really too bad because the lead singer of the Seekers is one of the finest female vocalists on the planet. She has always been revered in her native Australia and the folks in England have adored her for decades. In addition to her work over the years with the Seekers Judith Durham has recorded a total of 8 albums as a solo artist. This disc, released in 2000, is her first collection of entirely original material. Judith penned all but one of the tunes herself and as you will see she has become quite a capable songwriter. My favorite tune on the disc has to be "It's Hard to Leave". It is one of the most poignant goodbye songs you will ever hear. In addition, I also enjoyed the title cut "Hold On To Your Dream", "In Your Love" and a nice little ditty entitled "Coulda Woulda Shoulda". "Australia Land of Today" a song commemorating the 100th anniversary of Australia's Federation is a truly remarkable song. Judiths goal with this song was to give Australians of all racial backgrounds a song they could feel good about. It's hard to make observations from over 6000 miles away but from where I sit it appears that this tune could one day be adopted as the new Australian national anthem. And finally, there are 3 tunes on the album that feature memorable piano accompaniment by Judiths beloved husband, the late Ron Edgeworth. Ron passed away from dibilitating Motor Neurone Disease in 1994. This outstanding collection comes complete with a nicely done 12 page booklet that includes lyrics to all the songs as well as comments by Judith about each one of the tunes. It seems that the more I hear her the more I love her music. Check this one out and see if you don't agree with me that Judith Durham really is one of the greatest female vocalists of our time.

I hadn't heard Judith Durham solo except with the Seekers until I acquired this and her other solo album. If it were vinyl it would be history. Where can I get more? I understand she has a couple of jazz albums out but you can't improve upon perfection. This is a great alblum
