Is the grass really greener along the road not taken? Holiday Switch, a charming and well-acted TV film, examines that question through the life of Paula (Nicole Eggert), a harried housewife whose sweet husband, Gary (Bret Anthony), is struggling to make ends meet for his family. Paula is never caught up on her laundry, she has the worst haircut ever given to a human person, and she longs for an easier life, a little pampering, a husband with money and influence. Is that so wrong? When she bumps into her high-school boyfriend, Nick (Brett Le Bourveau), a successful art dealer, her fantasies run wild. The next thing Paula knows, she wakes up in a different reality--in a much ritzier zip code. In the manner of It's a Wonderful Life or Sliding Doors, Paula is suddenly plopped into a parallel universe--the luxe life with Nick that she thinks she's always wanted. The first day is fun--Paula gets to play dress-up and drench herself in jewelry, furs, great designer clothes, and every luxury she can imagine (though, oddly, she is still stuck with that bad haircut). But before long she realizes the dangers of wanting something just beyond one's reach--and not being grateful for what really matters. Eggert throws herself enthusiastically into the role of both Paulas, and her gradual realization of what she loves and misses about sweet old blue-collar Gary is conveyed with subtlety and nuance. But Paula's new, fractured life doesn't seem to be a dream she can awaken from--and Paula's heartache is palpable. Holiday Switch is set at Christmastime, so that the themes of family, gratitude, and the value of love over material possessions ring even more true. You see, Paula? You really have had a wonderful life. --A.T. Hurley

At Christmas time I play all holiday movies and I have a lot of them. My customers really like them and they are a change from the usual ones although I have them to. I really like Cameron Diaz. I havent seen any movie of hers that I havent liked. She plays all of her parts very well. Wat to go Cameron. Keep up the great work! I love them.

Just watched this from the local library and really enjoyed it as a nice family Christmas movie. The main character tires of her ordinary life as a housewife and mother and dreams of what her life might have been if she had married the other guy she dated, a rich, high society world travelling art broker. In a "twice in a lifetime" kind of way she enters what would have been her alternate life (a bit corny here, she goes through her clothes drier and comes out in the rich man's laundry room- this part I thought was a bit much, why not just let her fall asleep and dream, it wouldn't have been so wierd). At first she is thrilled to be the wife of such a wealthy man, but eventually she sees things differently. Actually a good message, teaching the fact that the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence. I will definitely watch this one again. As to the actual Biblical meaning of Christmas, and Christ's birth, that is totally missing. Still, a nice movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beware what you wish for!, Oct 11 2010
By J. Arena - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Holiday Switch (DVD)
Have you ever thought that your life could have been so much better if only you had taken a different turn at some point?

Paula Ferguson runs into her old boyfriend at Christmas time. He's turned out to be a wealthy art dealer, living a life of luxury. At least that's the way it seems to the hard-working Paula, struggeling with debt, housework and family issues -- just like the rest of us. She makes a wish, and ends up transported into the alternate reality of her dreams. Of course, in the end, Paula would give just about anything to get back to her real world. But, this time, the wishing doesn't work!

Holiday Switch was very cleverly done, and is a step above lots of other Christmas movies about dreams being granted.
