Sabbath lives!!,

This review is from: Holy Mountain (Digi) (Audio CD)
Great album from these guys. If you like Stoner rock this album will kick you in the teeth. The singer at times can emulate a young Ozzy and their cover of the Black Sabbath song, Snowblind sounds eerily similar to Sabbath's (why mess with perfection?)This CD is perfect for on-line gaming as it puts you in this "trance" when playing sports games and especially racing games. It's too bad they did not make more albums though (Kyuss anyone?) as I would have been the first in line to buy anything related to "Sleep". A classic CD for those of you like myself who are an everending quest to find the perfect successor to Black Sabbath-Kyuss perfection.

Originally recorded and submitted as a demo to Earache Records, this was instantly recognized as something special, and put out with a quickness, though probably then even Earache didn't know what a seminal underground classic, and Stoner Rock/Doom cornerSTONE, this would GROW to become. The recipe is simple: Copious amounts of green; the first four Black Sabbath albums; detuned guitars; droning, pounding drums; wah-wah bass; beyond lethargic vocals; and sci-fi lyrics about weed, space, mountains, dragons and druids, and BAM! Sounds easy right? Not so. No other band since has come close to what they accomplished with this album. Fittingly, only Sleep themselves managed to top "Holy Mountain", with their follow-up, "Dopesmoker", following a few years later. This album is a classic, and still holds up as though it were recorded today (or the 70's)! The "Dragonaut" video and the "Masters of Misery"-Sabbath Tribute album cover track "Snowblind" are definitely bonuses, though it would have been really cool to have their Vol. 2 EP included, but oh well. This is a cool reissue, HIGH-ly recommended!

The Remaster/Reissue is a must own! This is bottom line the best Stoner/Doom Metal album ever made the songs are so thick and heavy it's like someone is pouring thick sludge over the Strings and melting everything in it's wake. BUY THIS!! The cover of Black sabbath's snowblind kicks ass!

I'm going to keep this one short: these guys are masters of stoner/sludge. This album is all about the riffs -- thick on the low end and crushing. A must own for any sludge fan.
