3.0 out of 5 stars If you're a fan of the score..., Dec 8 2002
This review is from: Home Alone 2 (Audio CD)
..then it's advisable leave this edition be and get the brand new Varese Sarabande limited edition Home Alone 2 score on 2-discs with a massive booklet containing loads of info about John Williams music.

This particular edition features cues never before available, including alternate, never before heard cues that take a totally different approach to the ones that ended up in the finished film. Also this release fixes a major problem that dogged the CD release featured here. This soundtrack release was not mastered from the first-generation session masters and, the tape that it was mastered from, was even running at the wrong speed so it sound kind of all off-pitch and 'just odd'. The new limited edition sounds so brand new and approved by John Williams himself. If you have a great sound system then no doubt 'Preparing the Trap'-Disc 2-Track 1, will sound awesome. This is my fave track by the way, it's featured here on the regular release but it doesn't sound as good.

Though if you're not a serious collector and only want to put this on as your family tucks into their turkey then go right ahead and buy it. Any CD with such beautiful Xmas cheer is a good purchase

5.0 out of 5 stars This score is haunting and beautiful! right???, Nov 26 2001
This review is from: Home Alone 2 (Audio CD)
I like this score. I hadn't had this score before, but now I do. This score is the most haunting and beautiful scores ever produced. I like all the tracks including Somewhere In my Memory, Christmas Star, We Overslept Again, Arrival In New York, The Haunted Brownstone, and of course! that part where the boy is being chased by the evil, bad, and nasty Harry And Marve. The track of The Haunted Brownstone is the most haunting because it'll remind you when you find a house that nobody had lived for years, and looks vacant with nothing but ghosts lurking in almost every part of the house! that will have the power to scare the love out of you. John Williams has done a great job composing this score. Now! where were we? Ah yes! The haunted Brownstone track. That track will remind you of the scene where Kevin tries to find his Aunt and uncle, but all he talks to! is ghosts. This soundtrack is a must have for any John Williams fan. I'll like it if any of you future fans buy this beautiful and haunting masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Williams winner!, Dec 18 1999
By
"dilinator" (Lansing, Michigan USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Home Alone 2 (Audio CD)
With his second installment of the "Home Alone" scores, John Williams once again captures the beauty of Christmas, the wonder of a big city to a little boy, and the dangers that also dwell there. Add to that songs that are heartwarming, and should remain a Christmastime staple, and you get a thoroughly enjoyable soundtrack, that while extremely fitting for the holiday season, is also good enough to be played all year round.

For this score, Williams brings back his original "Home Alone" themes, complete with the pretty "Somewhere in My Memory". He then adds a number of new variations for tracks like #5 Arrival in New York, and #6 Plaza Hotel and Duncan's Toy Store, which really portray the scenes they coincide with, and further add to the tenor of the soundtrack. He also brings in a new song, "Christmas Star", which although not as pretty as "Somewhere in My Memory", is still a winner.

All in all, Williams did it again, weaving a wonderful masterpiece, and leaving the listener with a good feeling. I definitely suggest getting this and the first "Home Alone" score, if you're a Williams fan, a lover of pretty music, or just looking for some nice christmas music for your parties, or gift opening. You won't be disappointed!
