Product Description

From Library Journal

More women than men start new businesses annually, since women enjoy the flexibility and ease of child care that working at home provides. Huff, a business journalist and author (Home-Based Business Ideas for Women, Pilot, 1993), enumerates 101 business opportunities to women found in traditional areas. Each listing includes information on start-up costs and financing sources, pricing guidelines, marketing methods, equipment, necessary education/training or experience, income potential, and information sources. Huff begins the book with short sections on selecting a business, developing a business plan, and understanding franchises and distributorship. While this title is informative, numerous recent books are available on this topic, from Lionel Fisher's On Your Own (LJ 1/95) to Daryl Allen's 1101 Businesses You Can Start from Home (Wiley, 1995). A marginal purchase for those public libraries with an adequate collection in this area.

2.0 out of 5 stars Should have gone to the library, Aug 31 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: 101 Best Home-Based Businesses for Women, Revised 2nd Edition: Everything You Need to Know About Getting Started on the Road to Success (Paperback)
Buying this book was a waste of money... I would have done better to do research on the web or to have gone to the library. Hardly any useful information.

4.0 out of 5 stars Please forgive me, Sep 7 2000

You may not post my review, but I had to let you know what helped me. I am a woman who has stayed at home with my precious babies for 6 years. Now, I need a little extra income to help pay tuition for all 4 of them. The reviewer from Illiois who wrote, a waiste of time and money, helped me, because I'm not looking to start a career. I am proud to be a "MOMMY" as she so sarcastically put it. I plan to get your book as a result of her bad comments about it. Thank you.

2.0 out of 5 stars This book is quite worthless, Mar 2 2000

Priscilla Y. Huff gives you practical advice on how to work from home and take care of your family. But if you were a degreed professional prior to being a mom, this is not the book for you. But according to the book, you should pursue a home business in candlemaking or crafts. But this is the 2000's, not the 1950's, Priscilla! Many of young professionals are educated in far different arenas than were portrayed here! And I also agree with a reader from Illinois: If you already have the credentials to run your own home health agency, you don't need this book to suggest it. And if you don't this suggestion is worthless.

Take my advice, ladies, do not buy this book. There are a lot of the generic home-based business books; with the careers outlined in them, you might actually have the opportunity to make a great home business.
