I really did not care for this book. First of all, when I ordered it I didn't know it was more a pamphlet than a book. I read it just the same. Th story is as the title says, a home ivasion. The story is predictable and the ending happy and rosy and also predictable. The heroine who realizes that what she has at home is better than what she thought she had. I finished reading this "pamphlet" in 35 mins and gave the book away. Not money well spent. I like most of Joy Fielding's books but I did not like this one and the one before that. Some of her books are keepers and I enjoy reading them more than once. This last one is not of them.

the book was ok, but didn't realize it was only 70 pages long with large print. Absolutely not worth it to buy.

What struck me, when I finished reading the book, was the overall message and how easily Joy Fielding managed to get it across in only 69pages. The reader is taken through an entire array of emotions, thoughts and feelings - a rollercoaster ride for the heroine of the story from beginning to end and masterfully captured by a very talented writer. Not least, covering the extremely invasive and horrifying event of essentially being taken hostage in your own home where you ought to be able to feel safe. On top of that, issues on longterm relationships, midlife crisis and stepchildren that are being influenced by another party as well as guilty feelings galore. And it all packs a punch!
I have read books by Joy Fielding before and was highly impressed by this most talented writer. This short story - a Good Reads Book borrowed from the Literacy Library - is another marvel of her wonderful writing skills and is not to be missed.

Purchasers of this book should be aware that it was written specifically for adult literacy learners. Joy Fielding has a great interest in improving adult literacy, and she wanted to write a story that would encourage reading for those who are weak or disinterested readers. The story, therefore, must be short, simply written, and have a riveting storyline. This book is not for Joy Fielding's mainstream fans, but if those fans know someone whom they would like to encourage to read, they may want to buy this book as a gift. Let's hope that more mainstream authors take Joy's cue and write books for those who struggle with literacy. As a teacher of adult literacy learners, I am happy to offer this book to my students. The story is fast-paced and the vocabulary is direct so that readers' interest is maintained; the end result is that these readers will be encouraged to read more.
