Terms that are clearly explained in the texts are also included in a glossary. In Home Page, the more difficult of the two topics, readers are walked through the process of building a Web page. Use of the text editor, HTML tags, typefaces, anchors, and pictures are all presented in simple terminology that even novices can easily understand. After completing this short introduction, children should be able to create a fairly sophisticated Web page, or even a Web site, complete with illustrations and hyperlinks. This author has a knack for involving young readers in the process at hand from page one, never allowing them to consider the difficulty of what he is asking them to do. In The World Wide Web, the emphasis is on how to navigate the Web. Explanations of terms such as hyperlink, URL, bookmark, Web indexes, and search engines offer a solid base for novices. The final chapter, an introduction to some interesting Web sites, offers encouragement, acknowledging that some sites will change. As any parent who has tried to work on a project knows, children are rarely content to be spectators, so Lampton's new book will thrill those children who want to do more than point and click on the computer. As Lampton explains, creating a Web page comes down to typing the correct words on the keyboard, something well within the capability of the determined 10-year-old, and since the work of designing a Web page is done offline, parents won't need to worry about large Internet bills. A computer with a text editor, such as Notepad, and an Internet browser, such as Netscape Navigator, will get kids started. Lampton uses HyperText Markup Language (HTML), which he explains in the second chapter, and includes an 11-line program that will create a Web page with title, heading, and text. He also provides instructions for making a Web page template and discusses how to make documents look more sophisticated by varying type size and using boldface and italics. The directions are clear and precise, and the illustrations show how the program will look typed in Notepad and through a browser. Sound and animation aren't covered, but this is a fine example of a how-to book that will soon have kids designing a personal Web page, complete with illustrations and links to other pages. Don't let this book go out of print!,

I wrote the review "Not Just for Kids" in 1998. After I learned how to create web pages (thank you, Christoper Lampton!), I built on this new knowledge by analyzing the code in other websites, reading other books, and expanding my skills through practice. Now I teach workshops for adults and I'm in my fourth contract year as a teacher in our local homeschool assistance program, teaching both writing and Web site design (www.kimn.net)--all thanks to HOME PAGE. Who knew? This is THE book to get your child, or for yourself, if you want to know how to create a Web site with graphics, photos, and text, with links galore. My youngest son at age 9 picked up all the basics from this book, and two years later at age 11 is proficient in Visual Basic programming language and devouring C++ books. I hope the publisher reconsiders and reprints this book so it DOESN'T go out of print. There's NOTHING as inspiring, as simple, as concise, or as clear as HOME PAGE by Christoper Lampton. ~Kimn S. I have seen books, and I have seen covers, but this one puts them all to rest!!! When I get the book, I'll talk about the inside, but the outside looks great!!! who says you can't judge a book by it's cover???

For two years I've wanted to make my own web page, but I didn't know how. This book by Lampton takes the mystery out of web pages. If you can type, you can make a web site, following the clear instructions in this book! Especially helpful are the side-by-side graphics showing how the typed page looks (the HTML code and text you type) and how it appears when viewed with a browser like Netscape (and how it will appear on the Internet). Using this book, I set up my first home web page in just two hours. EXCELLENT book!
