Oakland's JYPU newest album is absolutely gorgeous and moody. Lush layered guitars and piano shine on their newest effort. What is great about the JYPU is they capture a moment or an emotion. The record makes me feel like I'm looking through an old picture album- and digging up old memories. Part of what makes "homemade drugs" so fantastic is that the band seemlessly shifts from whisper to full on rocker- check out the tracks reckless driving and 3+1. The recording has a real warmth to it- in particular the balancing of vocals with the gorgeous soundscapes in the background. Oh yeah and once you're done listening to it really loud... check it out on headphones. If you like Low, Kepler, Owen, Cat Power and the like you will certainly dig JYPU- they really are something special.
