Book Description
Early fans of the Honda Gold Wing discovered a bike that was meant to be ridden and enjoyed over the wide open spaces. And with the aftermarket supporting their riders' whims, Honda's Gold Wing soon came to define a new class of motorcycle -- the heavyweight touring machine -- as well as a new class of rider -- the Winger. It was a revolution the rest of the industry could not ignore -- the competition quickly found itself following Honda's lead into uncharted territory. This carefully researched book follows the evolution of the Gold Wing from its inception through to present models, highlighting the design features and competitive environment in which Honda drove the development of this truly landmark machine.
About the Author
Darwin Holmstrom is the author of
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Motorcycles (with some assistance from the editors of
Motorcyclist magazine).
Honda Gold Wing is his second book. Darwin caught the motorcycle bug at the age of five, when his cousin brought home a shiny new Honda CB350. He supports his lifelong motorcycle habit by any means necessary. He's worked as a factory laborer, farm hand, truck driver, potato inspector, editor, newspaper reporter, and adjunct professor, teaching journalism, technical writing, and composition.
He currently works as a freelance writer and editor in the Minneapolis area. He also mans the illustrious Midwest Desk for Motorcyclist magazine. He's been riding since the ripe old age of 11, and he has logged at least 25,000 motorcycle miles each year for the past 15 years. His dream garage contains a Ducati 750SS (Roundcase, with a duck-egg blue frame), Series C Vincent Rapide, Moto Guzzi V11 Sport, KTM Adventurer, Honda VFR800 Interceptor, and 1993 Gold Wing SE. His real garage is somewhat more spartan.
