She's not marriage material, let alone mother material. He's looking for a good time, not forever. What happens when these two people who have divergent goals collide? Hot stuff!!
I've read the rest of the books in Carolyn Brown's Honky Tonk series and all are winners. This one is no exception. I know when I grab one of these books, I'm in for a great time with fantastic characters. There is a real sense of community and I want to visit there often.
In Honky Tonk Christmas, we meet Sharlene and Holt. From page one, I wanted to lick the man from head to toe. He's yummy to look at and -- bonus! -- he's a family man. I loved his slow to anger personality and his perpetual patience with Sharlene. The man has a heart of gold, even when he's making a mess of things. Reading him interact with Judd and Waylon was sweet and touching and I wanted to be right there with them.
Sharlene posed some challenges for me. She's a very negative character. She wants to be loved, she just doesn't realize it. She wants someone to be there for her. She just doesn't realize how good she's got it. What she's been through is some tough stuff that would cripple lesser people. I totally got her, but there were times when her negativity grated. I wanted to tell her, you can let yourself live and love. But if that was the case, the book wouldn't have been nearly as good.
And the build-up between Holt and Sharlene is fun to read about. I love the way the kids got involved to help bring them together. It's sweet and something not to miss.
If you want a story with a cast of characters you won't soon forget, then you need to read Honky Tonk Christmas. I give this story 4.5 books.

AN AMAZING WESTERN CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE! HONKY TONK CHRISTMAS BY CAROLYN BROWN, Nov 8 2010

This review is from: Honky Tonk Christmas (Mass Market Paperback)
HONKY TONK CHRISTMAS by Carolyn Brown is a contemporary western romance set in modern day Mingus, Texas. It is the fourth in the Honky Tonk series. It is well written with details, depth and page turner. It has romance, living with guilt, passion, spirited old ladies, cowboys, honky tonks, country music, love and reuniting old friends with new friends. The characters are spirited, high octane, family, sassy, and down right cute. The hero, Holt, is handsome, raising his niece and nephew, construction owner, and sparks fly between him and the heroine. He is going to do a construction job for the new Honky Honk bar owner, Sharlene. The heroine, Sharlene, is sassy, cute, was in Iraq, in the military, has nightmares, and has sparks with Holt. Sharlene, adores, Holt's niece and nephew. Who just let me say are so cute, funny, are only six years old, their parents are both dead and they definitely add spunk to this Christmas story. This is a wonderful conclusion to the Honky Tonk series. And yes the curse or blessing which ever you want to call it continued for the owners of the Honky Tonk.I would recommend this book especially if you enjoy healing, love, passion, spunk, adorable children, and a Christmas come true. To me this was the best of the best of this series. This book was received for review from the publisher and details can be found at Sourcebooks and My Book Addiciton and More.

Honky Tonk Christmas is the perfect Christmas gift., Oct 12 2010

Meet Sharlene Waverly...new owner of the Honky Tonk bar. Sharlene is excited and can't wait to expand the bar. Sharlene needs a contractor and fast. Sharlene is tried of looking at all the yellow electrical wiring tape and wants the new additional done in time for the holidays.
Holt Jackson is willing to take on Sharlene's job in exchange for a place to stay. Sharlene agrees. There is just one other small or should I say two small catches. Holt is raising his nephew and niece. The last thing on Holt's mind is having a romantic relationship with any woman, especially Sharlene. Though when the fire works start up...watch out!
I have enjoyed all the books in this series, though I have to admit that the past couple of books were missing the spark that I loved so much about these books. I am happy to report that the spark is back and better then ever in Carolyn Brown's latest, Honky Tonk Christmas. Sharlene and Holt are a match made in honky tonk heaven. Holt is the hot, sexy guy with the heart of gold and Sharlene is the rock that every man needs in his life. I really liked Sharlene. She may have a tough exterior but she is also sweet. Holt is every woman's dreams...good looking, loves children and goes after what he wants. Honky Tonk Christmas is the perfect Christmas gift.
