4.0 out of 5 stars Return to Nashville 1975, Oct 22 2008

Another great release from Smallstone Records returning us to the sounds of the 70's. This time instead of reminding us of Black Sabbath and Southern Rock, it's Nashville,TN and the height of outlaw country. If you like the sounds of Johnny (Cash), Merle, Waylon, Willie and the boys then this cd is for you. I heard many albums that a flavor of classic country but this album would fit on any mid-70's country radio play list. Pure and simple this harkens back to day when country actually sounded country. Enjoy

Good to great honky tonk sound from the "outlaw" period of Willie and friends. Nice guitar and pedal steel work with a cool take of the Boss's "I'm on Fire". Solid vocals with solid back up. All the songs are for those bar room cryin' in your beer folks with some stingin' Tele to make it all worth while. Fun songs to jam to if you play. And,, they're from Detroit, close enough for my ears. this CD will keep your feet tappin'.. check it out!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Listen Up Traditional Country Fans...., May 21 2010

"Honky Tonks and Cheap Motels" is about the best thing I've heard in a long time. An album of straight up pure traditional country music Whitey and the 78s is one not to miss for the for the folks who think country ain't country no more. ""If It Ain't Broke" is an anthem for just that thought. Heavy on pedal steel and electric guitars there aint a bad track on the CD. There is a heavy Waylon influence on "Honky Tonk Angel" and "Hold Her When She Cries , a southern rocker "Sinner" , all of them quite original and unqiue. They cover Springsteen on "I'm On Fire" which is even better than Bruce's. Just add some load guitars and twang.I'd have to say "Back to Back" is my favorite on the album, its the most original you just have to hear it. These guys deserve more credit in a world of plastic so called manufactured music coming out of Nashville, these Detroit country rockers are the best thing I've heard in a while. Hope there is more to come in the future!
