This And ONCE BITTEN Are The First Great White Albums To Get,

HOOKED and ONCE BITTEN are the first albums to get by Great White. The best cuts here are "Call It Rock & Roll", "The Original Queen Of Sheba", "Can't Shake It", "Heartbreaker", and "Desert Moon." These guys are kind of like an 80s/early 90s version of Bad Company, the Outlaws, or Lynyrd Skynyrd. In fact, although many Outlaws fans wouldn't be caught dead with a Poison CD, both an Outlaws fan AND a Poison fan can like Great White.

Even though I am a senior banker in my 40s now, I have no qualms in admitting that I have always been a fan of hard rock, especially blues based. Great White qualifies. Furthermore, their music is melodic. 'Hooked' was perhaps the last album produced by the original line up of Jack Russell (vocalist), Mark Kendall (lead guitars), Michael Lardie (keyboards and guitars), Audie Desbrow (drums) and Tony Montana (bass guitar from 1987 to 1992). Although the album 'Once Bitten' and then 'Twice Shy' fared better than it, 'Hooked' is decidedly voted the best of their work on their website (you can also participate in voting) and of course, it is voted the best by me too. The group is at its best in this album. From the pathos and wailings of Russell to weeping of Kendall's guitar, from their ballads to simple rock and roll music that will send you dancing in a jiffy, this album has everything that one can ask for. Besides, if you want to hear the best use of wah wah peddal, listen to Kendall's work anytime, but he is really good in this album in song 'Congo Square'. There you will find some creativity and originality. He is the best guitarist in rock and roll as rock and roll was supposed to be. Btw, 'Congo Square' starts with a bluesy wailing full of pathos by Russell, but ends in a very groovy guitar work by Kendall. When grunge metal delt quite a fatal blow to heavy metal of the 80s, many bands decided to go heavier or disappear for a while. Great White took another approach - they softened, but still retained their blues base and melodic approach to hard rock. 'Hooked' proved that their approach was smarter. Great White music will not disappoint you. I hope they continue to produce music for a very long time.

First of all this is an increadible cd!! i love it. when i first started to listen to it i only listened to 3 tracks which were (call it rock'n roll, lovin kind and afterglow. if it only had those songs i would still love it.however the other day i was in the car and i decided to listen to it all the way throught,and boy was i in for a treat. there is not a song on here that would be in the region of being bad. they all have their sound and let me tell you Mark Kendall, the lead guitarist really shows off some of his talent.you cant go wrong with this album, trust me. oh and just for the record i am 14 and i have only been listening to great white about 2 months and i am already a die hard fan!!!!!!
