3.0 out of 5 stars One of many compilation albums May 31 2004
Format:Audio CD
Over the years the who have released album after album of their geatest hits. First there was Meaty, beaty, big, and bouncy. Then there was the rarities collection, Odds and sods. We were welcomed to this album in 1982. IN 1985 there was the who's greatest hits, in 1988 there was Who's better, Who's best. And so on. The fact is that the who will always continue to release greatest hits albums. My suggestion would be to get original albums, it really is a waste of time trying to collect the who's greatest songs, by the time you did it you would own every album released. This is NOT the best 80's compilation, this album severely lacks material, it doesn't even have Won't get fooled again on it, among many other songs. However this is a good collection if you are new to the who. If you want a compilation album get the most recent greatest hits release. But if you really don't want to waste time, buy the who's original albums rather than fooling with the greatest hits series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best 80's Comp March 20 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This was the best of to have in the 80's and by my opinion it's the best of to have today! Sure, Ultimate Collection has great songs like My Generation and The Kids Are Alright, but not even the Ultimate Collection has 'The Relay' or Drowned, or Had Enough (Oh, weezeridiot, Had Enough is written by John Entwhistle, even though it's sung by Daltrey). This is also a great one to have because really rare and unavailable new (unless there's a really good CD store that has it new), so buy this before no one has it used anymore! Yay Hooligans!
(I also reccomend Rarities 1 and 2)

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but there's better Jan. 2 2004
Format:Audio CD
It's just like every other Who greatest hits compilation, except it's missing older songs from their first three records. There are absolutely no songs from the amazing "A Quick One" and NO John Entwistle songs at all. It should at least have "My Wife". Back in the 80s this was THE Best Of to have. But now there is recently released "Ultimate Collection" and even the 96 one is better than this. This is only for a person trying to achieve the task of owning everything the Who has done.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Pretty Good Album Feb. 4 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This wouldn't be my first choice but it has some pretty rare songs on it like "The Relay". It could be better if they added some real golden hits like "My Generation" or "Won't Get Fooled Again". There are some hits they you wouldn't really find on greatest hits albums. If I could, I'd disclude "Song is Over", "Drowned", and "Had Enough". Don't get me wrong, all those songs are great but they aren't needed on this one to make it good

5.0 out of 5 stars The real deal Feb. 12 2010
By Joker - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Hooligans is a two-CD "best of" or compilation set of The Who's best music. Unlike some of the "best of" or "greatest hits" type of packages this band has put out over the decades, Hooligans features the full versions of songs - they are not abbreviated versions where the last 30 seconds or 1 minute of a song is cut off and just fades out and they're not radio edits, either. They're the full versions. This set was released in 1981 and includes all of their good stuff from their beginning up until the late '70s.

Here are the songs:

Disc One:

I Can't Explain
I Can See For Miles
Pinball Wizard
(Nothing Is Everything) Let's See Action
Summertime Blues
The Relay
Baba O'Riley
Behind Blue Eyes
Bargain
The Song Is Over

Disc Two:

Join Together
Squeeze Box
Slip Kid
The Real Me
5:15
Drowned
Had Enough
Sister Disco
Who Are You

All in all, a good set. It's out of print, but is worth getting if you can find it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooligans, hits and great album cuts! April 10 2008
By Johnny Boy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The Who's 1982 hits collection 'Hooligans,' is a great collection, spanning the band's best songs. You get 'The Relay,' which also happens to be one of my favorite Who tunes as well, as well as many other great songs.

My other highlights are 'Sister Disco,' 'Drowned,' '5:15,' 'Who Are You' and 'Slip Kid.' Disc 2's 2 of the 9 songs cover the 'Quadrophenia' record, so one does have to ask, why didn't they include 'Love Reign O'er Me' or perhaps 'Doctor Jimmy'?

But overall, despite those omissions, this is a great collection for the true Who fan. And, it helps knowing that unlike on compilations like 'Who's Better, Who's Best' or 'My Generation: The Very Best of The Who,' that 'Who Are You' is in it's original 6:23.

Highly recommended for the true Who fan. ENJOY!!!
