From School Library Journal

Grade 1-3-- Horrible Harry is back, and he's in love. In this sixth delightful adventure, the children of Room 2B become deeply engrossed in making plans for a wedding. Harry loves playing kickball so much that his classmates think he should marry the ball. But Harry has other plans. He proposes to Song Lee and suggests that they tie the knot on Valentine's Day. At first, she says that seven and a half is much too young to get married, but then tells Harry that if her mother gives her permission, she will go ahead with the plan. Woven into the preparation for the pretend wedding is Harry's attempt to help his friend Sidney come to terms with his mother's upcoming marriage. The outcome is delightful, and once again Harry displays his comic style while sharing his thoughts and feelings. The characters are real, and the story is fresh. --Cindy Backes, St. Teresa School, Pittsburgh, PA

About the Author

Suzy Kline, the author of nineteen previous Horrible Harry books and four books about Song Lee, lives in Willington Connecticut with her husband, Rufus. Suzy and Rufus have been married for thirty-eight years. They met in the state where they both grew up: California. Suzy grew up in Berkeley and Rufus in Sacramento. Suzy graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in European history. She met Rufus at the Davis campus while attending that campus for a year. They got married and lived in different places, including Canada, before settling into Connecticut, the state they now call home.

Suzy taught in 5th and 6th grades at Shannon Elementary School in Richmond, California for 3 years, and 2nd and 3rd grades at Southwest Elementary School in Torrington, Connecticut for 24 years before retiring this past June. She now enjoys writing full-time and visiting schools and libraries. The couple share their home with two cats, Teeter and Hoag. They have two daughters, Jennifer and Emily, and four grandchildren: Jake, Kenna, Gabby and Saylor. A fifth grandchild is due in September, 2006. Suzy's mother just turned 96. She dedicated her most recent book, Horrible Harry Takes the Cake to her.

Suzy and Rufus enjoy attending UConn football and basketball games, and Suzy uses the UConn library as a reference for her writing facts.

Frank Remkiewicz has illustrated numerous books for children, including the popular Froggy books by Jonathan London (Viking and Puffin). He lives in Sarasota, Florida.

4.0 out of 5 stars Read It! Oct 20 2001

Format:Paperback
What I mostly liked about it was it is funny. This book is about Harry and Songlee getting married on Valentine's Day. Of course you do know that they really don't get married. They called it the kick ball wedding and that's the title of this book. The funniest part, I think, is at the end of the book Horrible Harry at recess didn't finish the wedding because they went and played kick ball; they finished the wedding when they were lining up to go back into the classroom. If they made a sequel to the book, I would think that they would probably sit close together if they got married.

I liked the book because it was interesting to read and I thought that when I was reading the book I curious to see what happened next. The book is the kind of book that you just want to keep reading and when you stop you say," I really want to read the rest of the book!" Before I read Horrible Harry and the kick ball wedding I really thought that it was inspired by the the book because it tells me in the beginning of the book it tells me don't be mean because there will usually comes revenge right after.

The story is so first grade. It captures the pathos of elementary school children. It is challenging enough for strong beginning readers.
