More Praise for Susan Johnson:

"Her romances have strong intelligent heroines, hard, iron-willed men, plenty of sexual tension and sensuality and lots of accurate history. Anyone who can put all that in a book is one of the best!"
--Romantic Times

"No one...can write such rousing love stories while bringing in so much accurate historical detail. Of course, no one can write such rousing love stories, period."
--Rendezvous

"Susan Johnson writes an extremely gripping story...With her knowledge of the period and her exquisite sensual scenes, she is an exceptional writer."

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book. Ignore the other review. Sept. 26 2004
By Susan M - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
After reading another reviewer's confusing entry, I felt I had to submit my own. I was thrilled to see the reissue of this great book under the author's real name of Susan Johnson. I purchased this book when it was out-of-print at some expense because of Ms Johnson's superior talent. A fan of her historicals I thought I'd give her only contemporary, written under the name of Jill Barkin, a try. I was not disappointed. In fact, I've reread it numerous times. That's probably the best endorsement a reader can give a work. The plot was tight and compelling, the romance hot and satisfying, the characters well drawn, interesting, and wholly believable. I highly recommend this to readers. The other reviewer mentioned this wasn't like Ms Johnson's recent works and they were right...it was written years ago and it follows her older "style." I am afraid Ms Johnson gave into pressure from somewhere to dummy-down her writings, to forget the footnotes that taught and expanded the knowledge of readers with brains, to leave out the rich descriptions and characterizations. Still Ms Johnson can be counted on to be literate and accurate. Oft times I hoot with laughter or wince with embarrassment reading the errors-grammatical and historical - some books have in them. Even a weaker work by Ms Johnson, which this book isn't, reads better than most authors can come up with on their best day. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars So different ...so GOOD! Dec 27 2004

Superb!

I've yet not finished the book and already feel the need to give my rating on this story.

Different to what I have been accustomed from Ms Johnson, yet passionate with a strong element of adventure.I took notice of one of your 'customer reviews - Susan M "Avid Reader", and I'm delighted that I did so.

Superb!
4.0 out of 5 stars Not as hot as some of her others but a strong read Dec 19 2012

Hot Streak was not my favorite of Susan Johnson's novels but it delivers the complex characters, strong story line and spicy love scenes her fans expect. A good read from a great author.
2.0 out of 5 stars This COULDN'T be the Susan Johnson I know- July 8 2012
By CL - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
What a poor excuse for a romance! I bought this because I saw a Susan Johnson that I hadn't read and the date indicated that it wasn't that old. I usually learn a lot from the historical period that she writes in and really enjoy the sensuality that she writes with. I wish this had said "Re-issued from an earlier publication" or something to let me know I wasn't getting the author that I so enjoy.
It was trite, unimaginative, and really just boring.
1.0 out of 5 stars Fortunately for all of her fans Sept. 11 2014

Format:Kindle Edition
This is an early work of Ms. Johnson's and is quite uneven. Fortunately for all of her fans, her subsequent works have been wonderful! Love, love, love this writer!
