Piano pleases July 23 2005
By Margaret A. - Published on Amazon.com
I got this CD because of the title track - "Fred the Cat." The music is lyrical, incorporating many themes and styles from the Caucasus and Armenian traditions. Hovhaness writes well for both the piano and orchestra ("The Mysterious Mountain" being his best-known composition)and I enjoyed the flow and variety of the music on this CD. Fred must have been quite a cat!

a composer worth meeting Sept. 4 2011

I wasn't familiar with Hovhaness' music. He is a highly accessible modern composer and the piano works represented here serve as a fine way to get acquainted with his work.
