Since it was first published in 1999, How It All Vegan! has become a bible for vegan cooks, both diehard and newly converted; its basic introduction to the tenets of vegan living and eating, combined with Sarah and Tanyas winning charm, made it an essential cookbook for anyone considering eschewing animal products from their diet. It won VegNews Veggie Award for Best Cookbook twice, has been reprinted fourteen times, and spawned several successful sequels (including The Garden of Vegan, La Dolce Vegan, and Vegan à Go-Go!).
In the ten years since How It All Vegan! was first published, however, veganism has come out of the closet, and is now considered a legitimate diet and lifestyle not only for those wishing to improve their health, but also those who care deeply about the welfare of animals. This tenth-anniversary edition includes new recipes, as well as updates and advice that better reflect the new vegan reality; it also includes a colour photo section and a new introduction by co-author Sarah Kramer, who speaks personally and passionately about the impact of veganism on her life over the past decade.
With this tenth anniversary edition, Sarah and Tanya's fans can find out "how it all vegan" all over again!

Veganism Isn't So Difficult,
By Andrea "Readaholic" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: How It All Vegan!: Irresistible Recipes For an Animal-Free Diet 10th Anniversary Edition (Paperback)
I felt it was time to get a vegan cookbook, after veganizing regular recipes. Of all the many vegan cookbooks in the bookstore, I chose this one after careful consideration. In fact, I didn't pick one on the first trip to the bookstore, because I couldn't decide. It took a second trip to make a decision. Picking the right vegan cookbook would be an important decision because I knew I would be using the book a lot. This vegan cookbook is more than just a cookbook. I found the stories about the authors, that were in the beginning of the book, to be interesting. The book also tells other facts and interesting things about veganism. For example, it tells how you can get protein, calcium, B12 when you are a vegan. I was grateful for the substitutions, especially for eggs and milk. This book also has recipes for household cleaners and health/beauty products. It also gives 44 things to do with vinegar. It gives suggestions to feeding kids on the road. This book has so much interesting information. Now for the recipes. Of course, I haven't tried them all yet. (Probably will never try all of them.) The apricot & almond tea cookies on page 149 are really awesome. I didn't have any apricots, so I used peaches and apples, and they turned out really good. I guess any type of fruit would work. They are awesome tea cookies. I guess coffee would go good with them, also, but in this heat, cold tea sounds a lot better than hot coffee. I can't wait to make another batch. The biscuits on page 128 are easy to make, and they taste good. I will be making them a lot more often. I will not talk about all the recipes I've tried. This book is loaded with so many good-looking and good-sounding recipes. In the recipes that call for soy milk, I substitute it with coconut milk, because I do not use soy milk, or any soy product. I do not eat soy of any type. To me, soy tastes like dirt or metal. This is not only a wonderful vegan cookbook, but a fun book. Highly recommended if you want some vegan recipes, or health/beauty/household recipes, if you just want some good laughs. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful

A great book, (even for non-vegans like me),

I have been trying to move more to a plant-based diet for health reasons (I feel "sharper"-- less sluggish; when I give up meat).I like this book for many reasons: 1. The authors aren't "preachy"-- the vegan lifestyle is recommended without condemning other lifestyles. 2. The recipes are tested, and I have tried four of them with great results-- the food tastes good and is filling, which is the main reason I crave meat in the first place-- I always feel like it satisfies me more. But the food is designed to satisfy with plant proteins, which was what I was looking for. 3. The recopies are easy to follow, even for newbies. 4. The food is healthy-- I feel full without that "lead weight" feeling that I get when I eat red meat. I want to say that I still crave meat a lot. When I was pregnant-- the cravings were even worse-- I wanted to eat "rare" steak all day long (I came to find I was borerline anemic and should have been taking iron pills all along-- my body naturally craves what it is lacking). But I'm hoping that the cravings for red meat will go away eventually. I definitely feel better, and sleep better when I reduce the meat from my diet, so I'm crossing my fingers that this will work! |
