In this fourth revision, some steps of sex-selection have been refined or eliminated over the years, but the accurate determination of time of ovulation remains the basic tenet. The authors endorse the cervical mucous method for ovulation detection and consider other procedures as alternatives or additional means in achieving success. They attribute traditionalists' reticence to providing sex-selection guidelines to a concern for ethical questions of "gendercide," but they argue that most parents do consider sex-selection to balance families. I had friends that it worked for and had nothing to lose. I had a daughter and also wanted a son. My husband's mother was one of eleven girls so the odds were against us. The first time I tried, I conceived and was blessed with a boy! I have recommended it to anyone that wants to try for a specific sex.

Many thanks to Dr. Shettles for the amazingly clear description of how the female and male bodies work which will aid in increasing your chances of having the baby of your choice. This book is not magic nor does it claim to be, it merely INCREASES your chances and the explanations are very scientific, but uncomplicated, logical and easy to understand. He doesn't just say "do this or do that" but explains WHY. After having had two girls, my third child was a boy and I am sure it's because I followed what he outlined...This book is highly recommended for couples who prefer a certain sex but will be happy with either one. A healthy child above all else but if we can weigh the odds in one direction or another, why not try???

OK... I may change my star selection within a few weeks. I am 16 weeks pregnant, and my husband and I get to find out the sex of our baby on our next doctor's visit (I'm just kidding about the star).My husband and I had planned for months to get pregnant. What we didn't plan for was for my cycle to vary between 30 to 45 days each time. I was not very hopeful to get pregnant in a timely fashion, but we did after the second try (second cycle). I believe that this book was a great contributor to this success because it gave us a better understanding as to how to tell when we may be ovulating. I never tested positive on the ovulation kits, but I guarantee you that I ovulated during the time I was testing!!!! This book, if anything else, will guide you in a good routine into keeping up with your cycles and when you are the most likely to ovulate... and... therefore... get pregnant (because, let's face it, yes, we all obviously have a sex preference if we are looking at this book, but all that really matters first and foremost is creating that precious baby... boy or girl).
