2.0 out of 5 stars Outdated, Aug 5 2002
By
Max Headroom (Midpines, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to Conduct Your Own Survey (Paperback)
This book was published in 1994, prior to the internet boom. It covers telephone, mail, and face-to-face surveys. It doesn't cover email surveys or internet-based surveys. It also fails to mention scaling or data-types. If you're looking for ideas on questions, or are concerned about sampling techniques, you'll find some info here. This is one of those "partial references": it covers some things, but leaves enough out that you'll need to buy another reference to compliment it. If you're looking for the latest in survey methodology, this book doesn't have it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for beginners, Oct 29 2010
This review is from: How to Conduct Your Own Survey (Paperback)
The book is very helpful for people like me that did not know about surveys.
It is easy to follow and understand. It does not have information related to web surveys but it gives you the basis for surveys in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent practical resource, May 6 2010

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: How to Conduct Your Own Survey (Paperback)
This is an excellent guide to every step of survey research. I have bought at least 4 copies, which continually go missing as I lend them out to graduate students and colleagues I work with in health non-profits. It is very accessible and practical, has great examples of good and bad questions, good and bad cover letters etc. Also clearly presents the basic principles of one question per question and how to get a good response people that many people who write surveys, including doctoral students, have never learned. Not in my view at all outdated!
