Product Description

Bali has become a top vacation spot for travelers from all over the world who often become enchanted with the island and return over and over.

Mick Jagger brought Bali to the world's attention when he got married there to Jerry Hall. The marriage did not last, but Bali is still considered by many to be the Home of the Gods. Later, everyone could see the beauty of Bali in Julia Roberts' movie Eat Pray Love.

In How To Find The Heart Of Bali, you will discover for yourself the passion that Bali has
inspired in Western visitors for more than a hundred years. Kate Benzin is a highly experienced tour director who has lived in Indonesia for more than 30 years and knows the island as few other outsiders do.

As Kate makes clear in her Introduction, this is not a typical guidebook and does not recommend specific hotels or restaurants. Rather, it is an introduction to social and cultural Bali so that the first time traveler to Bali can experience a dream holiday in this iconic 'tropical island paradise' destination full of culture and wonder.

Note for Kindle users: This book has been specially formatted for the Kindle to provide you with the best possible reading experience.

About the Author

Kate Benzin is originally from Chicago, but started moving around immediately after college. She is a seasoned traveler who has lived in Indonesia for most of the past 30 years since 1982 when she arrived for a 3-month contract to train people as word processors - and she is still living in Indonesia because she found that living in Indonesia gave her the kind of adventurous life that she had been seeking. So she stayed and taught English for 14 years. When Kate needed a new direction in her working life, she changed careers and became a tour director which allowed her to continue living in Indonesia while working all over the world - Indonesia, Russia, Spain, China, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, France and more. Now she spends most of her time writing in her home/office just north of Yogyakarta in Central Java which she shares with her three dogs. In her first book How To Find The Heart Of Bali, she shares insights that she gained during her many years in Indonesia. In her second book Transformative Travel, she shares how she fulfilled a lifelong dream of trekking in the Himalayan Mountains.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Intro But Not What I'd Hoped April 18 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Good introduction for the 1st time traveller to Bali that wants to experience Bali and not party in the tourist zone.
I was hoping for some insight beyond the travel guides but it failed to meet those expectations. This book may be great for some but as a traveller planning my 4th trip, i don't think i got anything out of this book.

I bought this book thinking it would give me a nice insight into Bali. I have been there before, and I can tell you I know more info then the author has presented here.
It is really just a brochure. Sorry to give such a bad review, but it was a waste of money.
Just go and enjoy this beautiful island.

Reading this book is easy because it's like having a conversation with a local about the place she knows and loves. It gives you enough practical information to make you more eager than ever to plan a trip to Bali. Thanks to this book I now have specific things I will do on this island and I know how to do them. Especially intriguing for shoppers are the step by step bargaining hints.

What a great job Ms. Benzin did on describing Bali. Her short and concise book really makes me want to go NOW. I loved her explanation of the different festivals, and especially the life cycle events.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay for a first trip ever person Nov. 23 2012
By Deborah Fortuna - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well, the book is pretty basic. She does give good advice to a person who maybe has never travelled anywhere. But most people who have travelled know about visas, etc. So, I guess for a newbie it would be okay
