Strong insights on bitterness, April 5 2004
By George M. Nickles III - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: How to Be Free from Bitterness (Paperback)
This book is a set of several fairly short essays directly or closely related to the theme of bitterness. The first essay is the centerpiece, and worth far more than the price of this book. The author goes in to a careful analysis of what bitterness is, how to detect it, how it affects us, how the non-Christian world deals with it (ineffectively), and how Christians are to respond. Other essays deal with related topics, especially bitterness toward parents.
I must give this book five stars as it is clearly written (if slightly repetetive in places to make a point), contains many insights to the nature of bitterness, gives clear and practical guidance for dealing with it, and is based on Scripture.
The direct, pratical application provided in this book is what struck me most. I highly recommend it for personal study, even if you think you're not bitter!

This book will change your life, get it right now!, Jun 22 2001

I found this book when I was searching for a Latin Primer for my eight year old daughter last year. I got it because the title was interesting. I have given this book to family, friends and members of my church. Everyone I know needs to read this book at lease once in their life.
Even if you feel that this does not apply to you what do you have to lose if you read it. You may also know someone else who would be healed by the information in this small book.
I once heard someone say that unforgiveness is like taking rat poison and hoping the rat will die. This book will help you escape from that trap and make forgiveness a lifelong habit.

Very powerful book, Nov 26 2011

This little booklet used to be freely available online, I think. I read it essentially because it looked interesting. Well, it sure was a powerful booklet. I had never recognized bitterness in my own heart and reading this book I realized my own suppressed bitterness was holding me back from a lot of the good things God had in store for me.
So even if you don't think you are bitter (because I sure didn't think I was), this book is really worth a read. It's only a few pages long.
From a technical theological standpoint, I think it takes a slightly calvanistic approach to theology in discussing the topic of forgiving & forgiveness (the booklet applies verses that a non-reformed theologian/dispensationalist would say were applicable under mosaic law but not directly applicable today in the age of grace.) Basically the book says "to be forgiven, you have to forgive" but a dispensational viewpoint would say something more along the lines of "You must forgive BECAUSE you have been forgiven." (off the top of my head, more or less). But whatever. The big picture is that I think the booklet has some HUGE principles and I can certainly say it changed my life.
That's pretty much the only book I've read as an adult that truly impacted me to that extent.
This little booklet is worth an hour of your time.
