ELVIS's first gospel lp is so enjoyable that i was bound to be a little disappointed by his second, released 7 years after.I've listened it three times before rating it.There are a few gems like SOMEBODY BIGGER THAN YOU AND I,SO HIGH and CRYING IN THE CHAPEL(recorded a few years before),but somehow the ensemble is less convincing this time.Amazingly, this was ELVIS's biggest seller in the sixties after BLUE HAWAÏ. I am glad that they included YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE as one of the bonus tracks. After this,ELVIS reinvented himself with the 1968 tv special and the superb FROM ELVIS IN MEMPHIS(after a few soundtrack albums). If you are not a maniac of the singer, you can skip that one. However, this is only one man's opinion.

When one loses a loved one, one reaches out to the spiritual. Listening to this beautiful album of gospel music is truly comforting. First the voice is wonderful and full of feeling. And second, the songs are inspirational. The first song "How Great Thou Art" sets the tone of reverence, which is continued with "Somebody Bigger Than You and I." "Farther Along" conveys the message that one day we will gain insight into our life here on earth. At journey's end, we will come to understand. "Stand By Me" and "Without Him" are pleas for the help and support we need in times of trouble. And a particular favorite is "Where Could I Go But To The Lord" because of the beat and the theme, that in a world of temptation, where can one find refuge but in the Lord. In your private hours, when friends and family are no longer around you, and you're alone, close your eyes and listen to this CD. It's like a prayer.

This is Elvis at his very best. When you you listen to him , you'll feel the magic of who and what he really was. You'll want to keep it handy for everyday listening. It's my favorite of all the wonderful music he ever did.

"How Great Thou Art" is one of the greatest albums ever done by a popular singer. The beauty and passion that comes through is riveting .You dont have to be religious to enjoy this masterpiece ,just sit back and be enthralled by Elvis and his talented musicians and backup singers.A++++++++
