5.0 out of 5 stars A labor of love, Nov 12 2001

This review is from: How Nikki Shared Her Coat: The Story of a Happy Dog Who Kept Her Family Warm (Paperback)
This story shows that dogs can give more than love. The painstaking (not painful) process involved in making a dog hair blanket is depicted in this delightful story about Nikki, a Samoyed, who over much time sheds enough hair to be spun and woven into a blanket. It's a fun book to read and includes basic spinning instructions at the end. (An expensive spinning wheel is not necessary!) It also includes data about the real blanket, how long the project took, how much yarn was necessary, etc. A dog hair yarn sample comes with the book. I've read this story to kids at library readings and brought along raw dog hair as well as the strand that's included in the book. They love the story, aren't so sure about touching the raw dog hair but are totally awed by the dog hair strand. This isn't just another dog book; it's a dog book with a twist, so to speak.
