About the Author
Hugh Johnson is the world's pre-eminent writer on wine. First published in 1977, Hugh Johnson's Pocket Wine Book sells hundreds of thousands of copies a year. I've bought this book for about 15 years or so and have always found it to be useful, relevant and portable. I don't always agree with the reviews and I feel there's some areas and wines that are overlooked (w-a-y too much emphasis on French wines, for example) but the reviewers get it right more often than not. A nice feature with this version is the "keep until" note by some wines. In the guessing game of what to drink and what to keep, this is a great guide for an amateur like me.

I wouldn't want to be a slave to reviews, and certainly do not refer to it in restaurants or before every purchase, but I do find Hugh Johnson's book a helpful, reliable and convenient guide to choosing wine. Probably best for someone who already knows wine types and regions, but needs some help navigating all the different producers.

I HAVE EVERY SINGLE EDITION PUBLISHED SINCE 1976. IT IS MY WINE BIBLE, IF THE WINE IS NOT IN HERE IT MOST LIKELY WAS NOT WORTH CONSIDERING.TRY READING THE HUGH JOHNSON WORLD WINE ATLAS, FROM AMAZON ITS A STEAL AND IS A GREAT COFFEE TABLE READ. HUGH JOHNSON IS THE REAL WRITERS MASTER OF WINE |
