One touch. That's all it takes to get easy-access to all the advanced features of the PiranhaMAX Series fishfinders. Fish ID+, fish alarms, depth alarms, zoom, and more- start putting more fish in your livewell. Clear Edge Grayscale displays ensure you'll see more onscreen, even in direct sunlight. The portable PiranhaMAX 160 PT features a four-inch grayscale display and dual beam sonar with 800 Watts PTP power output.
The PiranhaMAX 160 PT features a four-inch, four-level grayscale display with 160 x 128 pixel resolution, so you get a good view of the action--even in direct sunlight.
The PiranhaMAX extremely easy to use. For most anglers, all you'll ever need to do is power on and fish. The PiranhaMAX automatically determines depth and makes adjustments to keep the bottom and fish visible on the display.
The PiranhaMAX uses sonar technology to send sound waves from the transducer into the water. The returned "echoes" are plotted on the display, creating a very accurate picture of the underwater world, including distance to underwater objects such as the bottom, fish, and structure.
The PiranhaMAX 160 PT uses a 200/83 kHz dual beam sonar system with a wide (60 degree) area of coverage. Dual Beam sonar is optimized to show the greatest bottom definition using a narrow (20 degree) beam yet can still indicate fish found in the wide (60 degree) beam when the Fish ID+ feature is turned on. Dual Beam is ideal for a wide range of conditions--from shallow to very deep water, in both fresh and salt water. Note that boat speed, wave action, bottom hardness, water conditions, and transducer installation can all affect depth capability.
Fish ID+ uses advanced sonar processing to interpret sonar returns, and displays a Fish Symbol when very selective requirements are met. When a fish is detected, a fish icon and its depth are displayed above the return that has been classified as being a fish. Three different fish icons represent intensity of the sonar return, and provide an indicator of relative fish size.
When Fish ID+ is on, you can set an alarm to sound when the PiranhaMAX detects fish that correspond to your settings. You can also set a depth alarm from 3 to 99 feet--an audible alarm sounds when the depth is equal to or less than the setting.
The PT version of the PiranhaMAX 160 comes with a soft-shell carrying case, suction cup transducer, integral cable storage and a 7Ah battery and charger so you won't miss a fish, no matter how far away from home you are.
PiranhaMAX 160 PT, Mounting Bracket, Suction-Cup Transducer, Cables, Battery/Charger, Owner's Manual

Humminbird PiranhaMax Fish Finder Review,
By Terry Bodman (Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Humminbird PiranhaMAX 407240-1 160 PT 4-Inch Waterproof Fishfinder and Dual-Beam Transducer (Electronics)
I use a fishfinder mainly for a depth indicator when fly fishing. The "fish finding" capability is a plus. The finder worked well under all conditions. The battery lasts at least a full five days of fishing with power to spare (not using the backlight)without a need for recharging. The case helps prevent glare during days of intense sunlight. The dual beam is helpful, especially in shallow water situations. The only weakness from my point of view is that depths are in full feet. It would be helpful to have at least half foot intervals.

Bought this from amazon about a month ago and it works awesome. I use mine on a kayak so I need to use a portable model. The suction cup is awesome, don't worry about it falling off. I have to slide a knife under it to un-stick it from my boat. The battery it comes with is like a small car battery, and initially turned me off to the product, this being the days of lithium-ion technology and all. I quickly warmed to it, however, as it recharges well and lasts forever. I went on a four hour fishing trip, left it uncharged, then took it out again for another four hours without coming close to losing power. The dual beam was a big selling point for me when I bought it, but honestly it seldom spots any more fish (fish picked up by the second beam are displayed as white rather than black). I wouldn't let this feature keep you from buying a single beam product. When I bought it, it sold for 111.00 from a company called Ritz Interactive, which no longer seems to be listed as a merchant. Take $30.00 off for applying for the amazon credit card, and I got it for 91.00. Plus got free shipping. I don't really have any experience using other fish finders, but this product works great for me. If you're looking for a fishfinder with long battery life and accurate readouts for a low price, this is a great deal. 26 of 26 people found the following review helpful

I've had the opportunity to use both the wired transducer attached via suction cup and the wireless remote sonar sensor. First I'd like to make it clear that the RF45 RSS is included. Some of the product information I read seemed to indicate that it was not included, but that was wrong.I bought this because several times a year I go to a local lake and rent a boat to fish for trout and Kokanee salmon, the rest of the time I spend fishing I fish from the shore. During a recent trip when I rented a boat I used the wired transducer. The boat I was on was a large pontoon boat and the only place to attach the transducer was to the back of one of the pontoons. The surface was rounded and had algae all over it. I got the transducer on but after a short time with the 50hp motor at full power the transducer fell off. That was okay, I wasn't expecting it to hold on at higher speeds, especially with the poor surface it was attached to. Once we got in the area where we wanted to fish and started going trolling speeds the transducer held on very well, it might have fallen off once every few hours. I do expect that if the surface had been flat and not covered in algae it would have held on even better. We trolled in water from about 30' deep to 110' deep and in every case the fish finder did well, even auto adjusting the focus on the display as we went from 30'->60'->90'. I learned a lot about this lake using the finder that I would have never known no matter how many times I've fished it without one. The wireless sonar sensor was a little tricky for me because it seemed that it was not being detected and the display would go to a simulation without displaying that fact on the screen, making me think the simulation was what I was seeing in the water I was on. After I figured out how to keep the unit from going to simulation mode it worked well. I haven't marked a fish with it yet, but I do now know the depth and what the lake bed looks like in my favorite shore fishing locations. After several uses including an all day boat outing I'm still on the first set of batteries. I like this unit and would recommend it to other fisherman like myself who fish from shore and sometimes a rented boat. 20 of 21 people found the following review helpful

Works Fantastic,

The Humminbird PiranhaMax 230 Portable Fish Finder works and operates perfectly. The state I fish in gets very cold and snows most of the time. The Humminbird PiranhaMax worked thru it all. The alarm is loud enough for my bad hearing. It is very compact so that helps with taking everything a person needs for fishing, I would advise anyone ice fishing to buy this product as I have used it in adverse conditions and it never failed me.
