FOR GLAMOUR, FAME, AND ESCAPE, I LOST SEVENTY POUNDS.
This is a photo of me at SIXTEEN, when I signed a big modeling contract, moved to New York City, and started traveling around the world.
It is also when I developed a ferocious case of anorexia and exercise bulimia.
Until I decided enough was enough—I wanted to live.
And so I ate. And ate.
Offering a behind-the-scenes peek into the modeling industry, as well as a trenchant look at our weight-obsessed culture, Hungry is an inspiring and cautionary tale that will resonate with anyone who has battled society’s small-minded definitions of beauty.
This is me NOW, the leading plus-size model in America.

Eating disorder focused,

This review is from: Hungry: A Young Model's Story of Appetite, Ambition, and the Ultimate Embrace of Curves (Paperback)
I was looking forward to reading more about Renn's modeling experience and the fashion world in general, while touching on eating disorder prevalence in the industry. Instead, I found the book to have a very heavy focus on eating disorders while the modeling/fashion industry storyline was lacking. Overall I got bored about 70% of the way through and I was just expecting a lot more. Still an ok read overall, but I was disappointed.

This review is from: Hungry: A Young Model's Story of Appetite, Ambition, and the Ultimate Embrace of Curves (Paperback)
The book details the struggle of a beautiful, young model who battles weight gain and the desire to be stick-thin in order to remain in the modelling industry. When she is advised she could be a plus-size model (at 5'9" and 130 pounds) she is devastated and begins a starvation diet to lose weight. She does on a continual basis but even then many agents and clients in the industry remain critical of various body parts, seeking a perfection that doesn't exist in any woman. It's a disturbing and genuine look into the modelling world by a young woman who learns self-acceptance after paying a price.

This book was a treat in more ways than one. Intelligent, thought provoking and very well written.
