Product Description

2009 release from the Canadian singer/songwriter. Rich in metaphor, language and instrumentation, Hunter, Hunter speaks to unrequited longing, the notion of belonging and reflections on love both lost and found. A songwriter by trade, but a writer at heart, Curran believes language is everything. She describes the craft of song-writing as an act of 'expressing the inexpressible, a means of describing the indescribable.'. Warner.

Although I purchased War Brides at the same time as Hunter x 2, I was lucky to preview her live performance on CBC radio where I downloaded it and pumped it into my gymn-mix iPod. Her music is great to work out to... and loaded with Mind Iron (Irony) and catchy anaerobic flare-oids. Her extremely fine tuned backing musicianship shows that she keeps good and talented company. I look for a 12 String and a Banjo in the background of some of her songs next CD. This woman proves you you can't kill Folk Music without killing the best parts of yourself.

War Brides War Brides has been one of my favourite albums almost since it came out, so I was happy to see Amelia Curran had released this one and it didn't disappoint. It has all the same great folk sound but without sounding recycled. Bye Bye Montreal is the first track and just sinks into it in all the right ways. Like I said with War Brides, buy this if you like good folk that isn't overly sweet.

Amazing, uplifting and spellbinding. Amelia Curran is a female Leonard Cohen-- Canada's newest lyrical icon.

With each new album, Amelia seems to distill her talent even more. This latest effort is really quite lovely -- dark and brooding but not without some humour. Backed by a top-notch cast of St. John's musicians (including rising folk super-trio The Once), Hunter, Hunter is like barbed wire wrapped in silk. Highly recommended.
