5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding work, Jun 12 2008
By S. LUCE "sluceaus" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Hunting Zoe (Hardcover)
This is an outstanding and very disturbing novel which I actually purchased for a short story called "Cell Candy". This story is probably one of the most darkly perverted stories I have read in a long time, containing a masterful twist that you won't see coming. Be pleasantly warned this material is not for the light hearted, this is heavy hitting material in the vein of the splatter punk genre i.e Laymon, Edward Lee etc. Its the kind of material that can and will deeply disturb you. Other stories in the collection include: "Schism" and intriguing look at a fractured reality reminiscent of the best Twilight Zone episode; Broken Cookie - one of the most deeply moving stories in the collection that recreates the point of view of a young child in a horrific situation; "Dead of Night" - Gerlach's perverted take on one of the best know urban legends; and finally "Jungle" - where Gerlach takes us into the point of view of a perverted sex fiend as he stalks his prey.

The main novella is a compelling postmodern sequel to Gerlach's novel "Love Lies Dying". I recommend buying these two novels together to appreaciate both more fully! Zoe is one of the most compelling female characters that I've read in Australian fiction recently, and this postmodern take on the impact of that character is refreshingly original.

In summary a must read for courageous, no holds barred horror fans. The cover art itself is to die for!
