"They said I would never write this book, well f**** em' cause here it is!",

This review is from: I Am Ozzy (Hardcover)
When I first heard of Ozzy Osbourne's biography "I am Ozzy" coming out last year in the U.K. I was both thrilled and scared. Thrilled because the singer I admire so much has released an autobiography, but at the same time scared because of his memory which was said to be in sad state at times. I bought the book anyway and I ended up loving it when it went on American shelves on January 25th 2010. In fact I can tell Ozzy still has a lot of memory when he recalls the events in the book and he says himself he doesn't remember everything, but he still remembers plenty. Chris Ayres is the co-author of the book and helped bring it together. The reason why I loved it and why I think Ozz's fans will love it is because it is written exactly the way he talks with his colorful British expressions and vocabulary, If you are a fan of his you know just what I mean! It's what makes the book so vivid and alive,it has Ozzy's mark all over it.Ozzy first starts with his childhood and his teenage years as he recalls how he grew up in a poor family and the different jobs he had. He talks about the first time he sang and his discovery of The Beatles which changed his life. Then more even more interesting he goes on about the Sabbath years, touring and moving to America, how he was fired, going solo and popularity. Everything important that happened to him is covered with plenty of details, biting the head of a dove and a bat, the Randy Rhoads accident and much more. Of course there is a lot of alcohol, excesses, crazy road stories and even death it's all part of rock'n'roll isn't it? And trust me I'm not revealing anything here, the content of the book are highly entertaining. Ozzy had such an amazing life, it's only normal that his autobiography is just as amazing. There are some great pictures and some funny ones in the book which date from his childhood, the Black Sabbath years and his solo years up until today. The only thing I would've wanted Ozzy to talk about is Jake E. Lee his guitarist for the "Bark At The Moon" and "The Ultimate Sin" albums. He doesn't even mention him throughout the book. Besides that I am Ozzy is more than I expected and turns out to be one of the best rock biographies and one of the best biographies I've read and I read plenty. If you're a fan you should definitely buy this if you're just curious it could probably entertain you.I always wondered if Ozzy would release a bio someday and now that it's here I can't say I'm disappointed by it! Great Biography,
By D. Desjardins "GRAND FALLS DUDE" (DSL DE DRUMMOND, NEW BRUNSWICK Canada) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: I AM OZZY (Hardcover)
Having been a fan since the mid eighties, I've always wanted Ozzy to write his own biography about his life. But with his history of drug and alcohol I also wondered if he could actually remember anything from his past. Well, he proved me wrong. Ozzy has a very good recollection on his Black Sabbath years, his first few years as a solo artist, Ozzfest and the television show The Osbournes. Ozzy recollection on their debut as Black Sabbath is very insightful. As well as the making of most of their albums, Ozzy's memory is very clear and I've learned stuff that I never knew from past interviews from the other members of Black Sabbath and their crew. Also Ozzy's memory when he first started as a solo artist, from when he first met Randy Rhoads until his death is great too. My biggest disappointment is that Ozzy does not spend a lot of time talking about his solo records as much as he did with Black Sabbath records. Although he does describe the making of his first two solo records and the musicians that worked on it (I love the fact that he talks about Bob Daisley!), he doesn't mention his other solo works such as Bark At The Moon, The Ultimate Sin and No Rest For the Wicked. Personnaly I would have liked for him to recollect on his working relationships with Jake E. Lee, Joe Holmes, Randy Castillo, Carmine Appice, Mike Inez, Phil Soussan, Mike Inez, Steve Vai, Robert Trujillo and Don Airey. But there's one person who he hardly talks about in the book and I think he would have deserved a whole chapter. That dude is Zack Wylde. Ozzy has know Zack for more than 22 years and has work with Ozzy on again/off again during that time but he hardly mentions him in the book. I've learned lately that Zack was not working with Ozzy anymore. But that's not the point. It would have been cool to know how they first met, was he impress by his playing, why Zack left in 1995 and how did it feel when he always seem to come back. Maybe it's because those were the years he was abusing drugs and alcohol more heavily than he had done in the pass. Or maybe he left those parts out so that the average person could read it without being a fan of Ozzy and still follow his life story without getting bored. But I do admire the fact that Ozzy is a family man and he truly loves his wife Sharon. Without her Ozzy would have ended as a bum on the street. All and all a great book and I guess I'll have to wait for Zack Wylde's biography to know the rest of the story!

Eccentric, chaotic, amazing.,
This review is from: I Am Ozzy (Paperback)
I just finished reading rock 'n roll legend John Michael 'Ozzy' Osbourne's tell all (or tell what he can remember) biography. Co-written with Chris Ayres, this book pulls no punches when it comes to revealing all of the major events in Ozzy's life, good or bad. He makes no excuses, leaves out no detail (no matter how unflattering or deranged it makes him look) and takes responsibility for each and every one of his actions. With the turn of each page, it becomes increasingly more difficult to put down. If you have any interest in biographies or music, even if rock 'n roll isn't your thing, this book is a must read. It is incredibly raw, unrefined and, in a word, real. He makes no reservations and doesn't hide behind any persona or ego. It is just John Michael Osbourne telling the story of his life as he remembers it. Though he may not remember everything, the things he does remember make for one hell of a story.
