Review

"Kristen Thomson's portrait of a wonderfully winsome young woman trembling on the cusp of adolescence is one of the freshest things to hit the stage in many a season... I, Claudia is blissfully funny and unexpectedly touching." “Kristen Thomson is the real theatrical thing...she can rock her audience—she certianly rocked me—on a regular basis with lines and moments that are hilariously funny, totally unexpected and unimpeachably true.”
—Robert Cushman National Post

"I, Claudia is blissfully funny and unexpectedly touching." (Richard Ouzounian Toronto Star )

Product Description

Claudia is an official pre-teen. Her father is getting remarried, she has a science fair project coming due, and she is in the physical and emotional throes of puberty. Finding refuge in the basement of her school, Claudia discovers the pain at the centre of her brimming child's heart. Some important adults in Claudia's life—her grandfather, her father's new girlfriend, and the school custodian—shed light on her situation.

Winner of the 2001 Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding New Play (20111019)

i, also, saw this just last night on CBC. it was absolutely brilliany, i tell you. you must see it. i do hope to see it, and read it, again. it is just one of those things that you get it the first time, but you keep on wanting to watch it. it makes you feel...i don't know. it depends on what you've lived in life and all.

but seriously, go see it. or read it. whatever. just DO it. nike..argh. nike sucks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Irresistible!!!, Oct 22 2004
By Jan C. Brodeur "I. CraneWing" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: I, Claudia (Paperback)
I have not yet read this book but the film appeared on CBC last night when I had other plans for the evening but I found myself caught up in the exquisitely fresh and poignant writing that I could not turn away from it.

The four characters reveal themsleves with deceptively simple lines that are delivered with an authtiticity uncommon in most film characters.

Every main character wears a mask and speaks in a distinctive voice and I was fascinated by the contrast between their appearances (bizarre and theatrical) and the delicate nuance of their insight into the variety of human prediciment.

The ending came upon me a bit suddenly. It is I think it is full of symbolic depth but I also think that I will need to see it again to understand it fully.

See this film!

It is funny, and bittersweet, and at the very least you will be awed by the brilliance of the woman (Kristen Thomson) who wrote and performed all four charaters by herself.

Thank you Kristen for this gift!
