We have well over 500 books in English, Spanish, French and Chinese. Yeah, I'm afraid you heard it right...you should see our bookshelves!! But seriously books are very important to us. I can say, without a doubt, that this book is our absolute favorite. It never goes on the shelf. It has been memorized by everyone in the house. It is an ode to self esteem like no other. I know there have been a rash or books written with the purpose of boosting kids self-esteem, but this one BLOWS THE REST OUT OF THE WATER.

The illustrations are so wacky that the kids just can't stop laughing! But seriously they have a smile on their faces and feel good after reading this story. They love to shout "I like myself because I'm ME!" at the end.

"I don't care in any way what someone else may think or say. I may be called a silly nut or crazy cuckoo bird --so what? I'm having too much fun, you see, for anything to bother me!"

With advertisements bombarding our children to make them aspire to be a super model or D. Trump, it's refreshing to find a sweet story about a young girl that likes herself flaws and all.
The big idea is apparent in the title and there are many lessons that teacher's can create. Here are a few lesson possibilities, have your students create their own "I like Myself" book. It's a great way to start off the year and get to know your students' interests. Use the book to illustrate rhymes in fiction and not just in poetry. It's also a great art and drama book to use with K-4; create a self portrait or perform a tableaux. In math you can graph how many ways the main character likes herself and finally, it's a great book to use for self to text connections.
If you're not a teacher, it's a great bedtime story!

I read this to my 2nd graders. Of course they loved the silly rhyme. They loved hearing it aloud, but it was nice that it was easy enough for them to read alone. The message is important and easy enough to understand. I LIKE MYSELF!!
