5.0 out of 5 stars i love macarons., Mar 3 2012
This review is from: I Love Macarons (Paperback)
I fell in love with macarons when I first visited France. When I came back to Canada, I was frustrated to find that these delicious desserts were extremely pricey and burning a hole in my pocket. And then I came across this book. Knowing that macarons are very touchy, I was very worried about messing them up. But this book is perfect. It is extremely detailed and takes you through the process of making macarons in a simple, easy to understand manner with loads of pictures for reference. Not only that, but I was extremely pleased to find the section on what could have gone wrong. They list the different problems you might come across, and identify ways to improve the look of your macarons. I'm very happy with this book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Macaroons - for people at sea level, that is, April 22 2010

This review is from: I Love Macarons (Paperback)
While it seems to have left out a lot of important tips, this book has some really good technical pointers. One thing: I have a feeling that it was written and tested at sea level. If you live at a higher altitude and try these methods, your results will most likely be VERY different from what you see in the book. As long as you have a good understanding of how to tweak recipe ingredients and oven temperatures to work for the altitude at which you live, you should be OK. I consider myself to be a very experienced baker, but I am going to have to practice A LOT before I get the perfectly shaped little macaroons I want at this altitude with this book.
Also, this book seems to be organized in an odd way, and isn't as accessible as one would hope. Great eye candy, yes, practical and easy to use, maybe not...
