This was a most enjoyable, fast read - reminding me of some of the history I knew, and filling in many more blanks - lots of surprises. I spend a great deal of time at the current Sunnyside, and this has really enriched my experience. My parents met at the Palace Pier Dance hall, and I didn't know the evolved history of the area. I am so pleasantly surprised that we may be returning to some of the old pasttimes at Sunnyside - shown in the book, as they have this year reopened a swimming beach with purification of the water.

This is a book about a landmark area in Toronto that has special meaning in my family. Sunnyside is where my parents met and spent many happy times. It was just a beach by the time I knew of it so it was fascinating to learn all about it and wish I had known it during its hayday. Mike Filey is a master historian and this book proves it.

If heritage is also part of your interest in Toronto's history, then Mike Filey's books are a great place to start. This book for me, has great significance, since I found a picture that actually relates to my great grandmother. It is a stepping stone helping me follow my family heritage.I look forward to owning other titles by Mike Filey, as I was born in Toronto.
