Just as A Bug's Life was a computer-animated comedy inspired by Akira Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai, the funny and often enthralling Ice Age is a digital re-imagining of the Western Three Godfathers. The heroes of this unofficial remake (set 20,000 years ago, during the titular Paleolithic era) are a taciturn mastodon named Manfred (voiced by Ray Romano), an annoying sloth named Sid (John Leguizamo), and a duplicitous saber-toothed tiger, Diego (Denis Leary). The unlikely team encounters a dying, human mother who relinquishes her chirpy toddler to the care of these critters. Hoping, against all odds, to return the little guy to his migrating tribe, Manfred and his associates need to establish trust among themselves, not an easy thing in a harsh world of predators, prey, and pushy glaciers. Audiences that have become accustomed to the rounded, polished, storybook look of Pixar's house brand of computer animation (Monsters, Inc.) will find the blunt edges and chilly brilliance of Ice Age--evoking the harsh, dangerous environment of a frozen world--a wholly different, and equally pleasing, trip. Ils ont eux aussi remis leur copie avec Ice Age (L’Ère de glace), offert en un double DVD qui fourmille de scènes inédites, de documentaires et de coups d’œil en coulisses.
Il y a 20 000 ans, en pleine ère glaciaire, les animaux commencent leur migration. Les hasards de ce périple réuniront un mammouth bourru et un paresseux maladroit, qui hériteront malgré eux d’un bébé humain. Un tigre aux dents acérées les convaincra de les accompagner jusqu’à la tribu du bambin, mais le félin n’a-t-il que de bonnes intentions ?
Tel un Livre de la jungle préhistorique – la panthère est devenue un mammouth et l’ours, un paresseux –, Ice Age est un charmant divertissement pour enfants où les êtres humains se réconcilient enfin avec les animaux. Même si le manque d’ironie du scénario classe souvent les personnages et les situations en deux clans, celui des bons ou des méchants, il les rend également plus dramatiques, donnant une intensité parfois très “adulte” au film. De bonnes idées, comme l’animation de peintures préhistoriques ou la rencontre avec une tribu de dodos hilarants, rendent en outre l’ensemble tout à fait amusant et sympathique. --Helen Faradji

Ice Age is an animated(in 3d)movie that takes place during the iceage.it's a comedy,action,adventure flick that is very fast paced,and a lot of fun for both kids and adults.there are quite a few good laughs in this movie.the voice casting is brilliant.Ray Ramano,Legiuzama,and Dennis Leary,among others provide the voice work.this one of the funnier animated movies in along time.it is rated G,so the whole family can enjoy it.as far as i can tell,there is nothing which should be offensive or unsuitable for children.my advice,gather the family around,pop in the DVD and enjoy. 4/5

Ice Age is an engrossing look at a tongue in cheek, highly enjoyable, family movie replete with zany characters and an action format. I wish there were more like it!

This is the first in the Ice Age trilogy and my 7 year old grandson loves it just as much as the other two. Highly recommended. Grandparents will enjoy it too.
