"The Ice Cream Army" is based on the true story of the battle of Broken Hill, where, in 1915, two Turkish men declared war on Australia and attacked a train, killing two of the passengers. The novel is a fictionalised exploration of the racism and prejudice faced by two Turkish immigrants in a small town in rural Australia, and the events that led them to take the action that they did. Jessica is the author of "The Angel Makers" published by Paperbooks in 2007, which has been sold into 11 countries. The book is also under consideration for a film offer.
About the Author
Jessica Gregson was born in London and grew up between London and Sydney, returning to the UK in 1996 to study Social Anthropology at Cambridge and a Masters in Development from LSE. Jessica has worked as a policy advisor for the home office and a humanitarian worker in Sudan. Jessica has just started a PhD at SOAS in London

What a fantastic read! Gregson is a lucid observer who writes in a clear and deceivingly unassuming manner, so that she only needs a few words to make any setting seem familiar. Equally her characters take life with no apparent effort from the writer and soon we're gripped by the growing tension in the story. A story that is as natural as daily life and as relentless as a classical tragedy. Very highly recommended.
