Fire and Ice Feb. 14 2011

I read this book and took it with me on my trip to Iceland last July. The book was easy to read, had beautiful pictures, maps and just the right amount of information to make various sites more understandable. Iceland is beautiful, clean and the people are warm and welcoming.

After seeing the recent film, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty", I became convinced that I have to visit this incredible country. I bought a few travel guides and this one impressed me the most based solely on the pictures which are breathtaking. I've read a bit of it now and am even more excited to visit Iceland. I can't attest to the accuracy of the book (not having been there yet), but it appears to be very thorough and it is very interesting.
Country background & pictures are the best! Sept. 2 2013

I usually buy 2 guides when I tour countries. Frommers for a "no nonsense", text-based catalogue of sites (more complete that Insight Guides) and the Insight Guide which provides a substantially more robust background on the country, it's culture, government, social supports sytems, etc. Plus, you get beautiful pictures of the sights in Insight Guides which often gives you more information upon which to base your decision as to whether to visit the specific site. But...sometimes that takes a little away from the adventurism - kinda like watching the movie before you read the book :-) The book covers - back & front - have special folds in them that allow them to double as book markers - nice feature!

I ended up with a slightly different version (due to a postal snafu) and I have not read the whole thing, but it looks very thorough and should be helpful during my upcoming visit to Iceland.

Great Guide Book on Iceland Sept. 25 2009

Unlike many of the guide books I looked at or purchased, this one has LOTS of pictures. I'm taking 29 people to Iceland for Christmas and this guide is everyone's favorite.
