High School Musical Does Not a Diva Make, July 5 2008
This review is from: Identified (Audio CD)
This album is clearly not geared towards me; it's obviously made for fans of the tween cultural phenomenon 'High School Musical'. And with subjects like teen romance, shopping, sneakers, dancing and partying on the moon (yeah... I know...), this album only interested me in that I wanted to see what Vanessa Hudgens could do without her posse of smiling toothpaste commercial Disney kids, since I missed the boat on her first album (in fact, I didn't even know there was one until recently... so THAT must have made a big impression). Hudgens doesn't offend me, really. She's talented enough, she's pretty, she seems to be a decent enough rolemodel (naked pictures aside of course) and she seems like a nice person. However, talented, she is not. Like a lot of the kids that Disney seems to turn into superstars (Miley Cyrus, Raven Simone, the Sprouse brothers), they have a lot of energy but very little talent in acting or singing. This album is proof-positive of that. Each song (and I won't bother going through them in detail) has as much substance as a brick of styrofoam. Sometimes, substance-less albums can be fun. Take any album by dance music seasoned vet Kylie Minogue for example, or Nelly Furtado's 'Loose', albums that are not meant for the thinking crowd but have quality in their production or melodies that still make them worth a listen. Hudgens' latest effort offers none of that high-energy quality, just a Disney cash cow with a pretty face. For kids, this might be a fun little album that they'll play over and over and learn all the words to, but the question is, will they because of the quality of the music, or Hudgens' recognizeable face gracing the album's cover? Unfortunately for Hudgens, her career will be forever-clocking on 14:59 if she continues making songs about sneaker nights and space parties. Sorry Vanessa. This album is like, so totally lame.

Music for the new generation, July 5 2008
By Amanda Richards - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Identified (Audio CD)
You know you're getting old when your kids start demanding their own CDs, and it seems like that stage occurs earlier and earlier with every generation. After listening to my music for the first seven years of his life, my son now wants exclusive listening rights to his latest favorites, namely Snack Time, Crazy Frog, anything American Idol, Jonas Brothers and now Vanessa Hudgens. Don't tell him, but this is one I don't mind listening to in the car, especially after months of Davids Cook and Archuleta and the Jonas Brothers "SOS". (Mind you, I still like Crazy Frog - Bam! Bam!) Hudgens may not be the best singer around, but the arrangements and great song choices make up for this, and her fresh faced good looks don't hurt either. The good songs (even for elderly folk above 25) include first single "Sneakernight" a three minute dance track; first track "Last Night"; the title track; "First Bad Habit"; "Hook It Up" (a Gwen Stefani-type track); "Amazed"; "Don't Leave" and "Did It Ever Cross Your Mind" (mid tempo). The dance tracks definitely dominate the album, which is a solid follow up to her 2006 debut album "V". Make a note of this one for the "High School Musical" fans on your gift list. Great follow up!, July 3 2008
By Eric Smith - Published on Amazon.com

I was 25 when I first heard of Vanessa Hugens. I bought her debut album on itunes because i liked the single "Come Back To Me" -- I already downloaded it. I think her voice is good, sounds kind of like the R&B singer Paula DeAnda ("Walk Away", "Doin Too Much", "Easy") only better. Vanessa's albums have been underrated. Even though I'm 26 now I still like her. Her music can reach older AND younger audiences which is what's so great about her. I like every song on this album especially her new single "Sneakernight." It gets in your head! If you like Vanessa Hudgens or the "High School Musical" series this album is for you!

A Very Good Album, July 2 2008
By Millie Ledford Lee "Love Southern Fiction" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Identified (Audio CD)
Every track on this album is good, with some of them being great. The best ones are Last Night and Gone With The Wind. On these two song, Vanessa shows what she can do with her voice. This is an album that will appeal to the more mature audience as well as to the younger generation.
