1.0 out of 5 stars Expensive book without content, Feb 21 2007
By Jean "Jean" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: If Peace Is... (Hardcover)
This book is NOT for children 4-8 unless they have never attended school. The writing is infantile and without meaningful content. The topic of Peace deserves a deeper and more mature treatment if children are to learn that peace is more than empty, warm-fuzzy words. The eight year old children in my class asked 'why didn't the book talk about peace?' Other comments of class members, based on the book's definitions of peace: , 'mom and dad hold hands but dad beats mom;' 'dad promised to take me to Sunday school but never came after me;' 'what song can we sing to bring dad home from Irag?' 'If they ring the Liberty Bell will peace stop the bad guys that killed my uncle(a police officer)?' I cannot recommend this book and feel it was very expensive for 75 words (prepositions not counted).

5.0 out of 5 stars Peace, Oct 2 2006
By S. J Parker - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: If Peace Is... (Hardcover)
Peace is something different to each of us. You might think of it as a bell that you can ring so all the world will hear it, or a special gift to open with care. Or peace could be a candle that we light at night to keep the darkness away. Peace is all of these things and much more - a hand waved in friendship, a kind deed done without asking anything in return. After all, what matters most is that all of us on earth find our own ways to love, protect, and care for each other.

Stephanie Carter's jewel-like images harmonize perfectly with Jane Baskwill's inspiring text to illuminate the many ways people can help make a more peaceful world.
